Sproul, Robert R.C.Dr. R.C. Sproul, founder of Ligonier Ministries, theologian, author, broadcaster, teacher, and pastor, died December 14, 2017. He was 78. Robert Charles Sproul was born February 13, 1939, in Pittsburgh, the son of Robert Cecil and Mayre Ann (née Yardis) Sproul. He held degrees from Westminster College (B.A., 1961), Pittsburgh Theological Seminary (B.D., 1964), and the Free University of Amsterdam (Drs., 1969) and received several honorary degrees. He and his wife, Vesta (née Voorhis), were married in 1960. He founded the Ligonier Valley Study Center in western Pennsylvania in 1971 as a place where Christians could immerse themselves in guided biblical, theological, and philosophical study. As its outreach expanded, the ministry moved to Orlando, Fla., in 1984 and was renamed Ligonier Ministries. Since that time, it has grown to be the largest Reformed educational and discipleship ministry in the world. A staunch defender of the inerrancy of the Bible, Dr. Sproul was a member of the International Council on Biblical Inerrancy. He helped draft and signed the Chicago Statement on Biblical Inerrancy in 1978 and wrote a commentary on that document. Dr. Sproul was author of more than one hundred books, including the classic work The Holiness of God, the St. Andrew's Expositional Commentary series, and several children's books. He also recorded hundreds of audio and video lecture series that have been translated into dozens of languages and have been used by people and churches around the world. Dr. Sproul also served as executive editor of Tabletalk magazine and as general editor of the Reformation Study Bible. His radio program, Renewing Your Mind, is broadcast daily on hundreds of radio stations around the world and can also be heard online. Dr. Sproul had a distinguished teaching career at various colleges and seminaries including Gordon College, Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, Reformed Theological Seminary, and Knox Theological Seminary. In addition, Dr. Sproul was founder of Reformation Bible College in Sanford, Fla. He served as copastor of Saint Andrew's Chapel in Sanford and was ordained as a teaching elder in the Presbyterian Church in America. R.C. Sproul-beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend, leader, faithful and kind man of God-will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him. He is survived by his wife, Vesta; their two children, Sherrie Dorotiak and Robert Craig Sproul; eleven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. A public memorial service will be held at Saint Andrew's Chapel in Sanford, Fla., on Wednesday, December 20, at 2 p.m. The service will also be streamed live online at RCSproul.com. Rev. and Mrs. Sproul changed my life as an 11 year old in Lyndora, Pa. where he was our student pastor. He was in our home the day JFK died and he taught me how not to be afraid of public speaking. I am a teacher because of the influence of Bob and Vesta in my life and in our small community. His legacy will be the many thousands of people he has touched through his life as one of God's servants.

It was only in the past two years I discovered this amazing servant of our Lord Jesus Christ and the beauty of Ligonier ministry. Thru the plethora of sermons and teachings available on You Tube, I find myself hungry for his teachings and always deeply moved to prayers of thanks for his calling.
I look forward to someday worshipping with him at the throne of our God and King! While you would only know me as a Christian sister , I offer prayers of sympathy and peace to his wife Vesta ...and the family that now must bear this loss.

R.C. Sproul, prolific author, champion of modern Reformed theology, founder of Ligonier Ministries, and co-pastor of St. Andrew's Chapel, passed into the arms of Christ his Savior last week on December 14th. We at HelloChristian thank the Lord for such a tremendous gift to His church and offer a selection of our favorite quotes from Dr. Sproul, as well as our continued prayers for his family.

"If there is even one maverick molecule in the universe outside of the sovereign control of God, then that molecule would be God."

As we feel the heaviness of the loss of RC Sproul, I can't help but imagine the immense sadness the Apostles must of felt when their great beloved teacher died on the cross. RC Sproul was not Jesus Christ, but he was a great teacher. We will miss him, and the full reality of the loss won't settle in until we see his name engraved on his headstone. However, we rejoice in the fact that we will see him and our loved ones again on that great christian family reunion in heaven when the Lord calls us all. As RC Sproul is absent from the body, we look forward to us being present with the Lord together with R.C. one day. Thank you R.C. for your devotion to Christ and His gospel.

To Him be the glory!

My heart is saddened by the passing of Dr. Sproul. As a young woman some thirty years ago, I began reading his material and it helped bring me to a closer relationship with the LORD Jesus Christ. I will be forever thankful for Dr. Sproul's passionate teaching of God's Word. I used to listen to him on the radio, and then when the internet came, I listened to him on the web. But my heart is also rejoicing in the fact that Dr. Sproul is presently seated at the feet of our Father, Whom he so faithfully and passionately served for so many years. Deepest condolence to his wife, children and loved ones. What an enduring legacy Dr. Sproul has left for his family.

So sad to hear Dr. Sproul has passed...he was truly a titan of the faith. I am abundantly blessed to have "discovered" RC many years ago, viewing his tv show Renewing Your Mind, and thankful to God that I have a library of his teachings/writings to enjoy for many years ahead. Missing him already.

My deepest condolences to the family and all who new him. He was like family to my husband and his immediate family. I met him about 6 years ago at our engagement party where and he was so kind and friendly. I then read a couple of books that were in the house and was completely impressed. I am so sorry that I did not get the opportunity to get to know him better. I will continue to look to my husband and his family for the wonderful stories about him.

Bless you Vespa and may God be with you and your family easing the pain of this loss.

Teacher, professor, pastor, author, husband, father, grandfather, friend, servant of God and His peopleDr. Robert Charles Sproul, better known to many simply as R.C., was all of these things and more. Having finished his race on earth, Dr. Sproul has gone on to his reward, and we now celebrate his legacy of faithful service to Christ and His church.

After his conversion during his freshman year in college, R.C. served Christ for more than sixty years. Never one to stand down when the gospel itself was at stake, R.C. tirelessly labored to defend the sufficiency of God's grace alone for our salvation as well as the trustworthiness of the Word of God. Yet in all this, he remained the consummate happy warrior, his infectious humor and generous spirit on full display. His bold stand for the truth evidenced the confidence he had in the sovereignty of the Lord.

R.C. was a uniquely gifted communicator, and his ability to make complex topics easy to understand was evident throughout his teaching. God in His grace used him to awaken men and women around the world to the holiness of God, and his legacy is evident not only in the vast body of work he leaves behind but in the countless people whose understanding of God's majestic character was deepened because they sat under his teaching.

As we reflect on R.C.'s life and legacy, we give glory to God for using R.C. to advance His kingdom on earth. We honor R.C. best by carrying on his mission to help as many people as possible understand the character of God and rest by faith alone in Jesus Christ.

I was a student of R.C. at Ligonier in the 1970's. I listened to him daily by podcast. I honor his memory and I join with his mourners in both missing him and rejoicing in the felicity that he now enjoys. BKH in Western Pa.

I first heard of "RC" about ten years ago. What a faithful and incredibly knowledgeable man of God. Although I never met him, hearing him and seeing him on-line was like having a long distance friend. The love I had for him is reflected in my many tears over his passing.

RC entered my life, by the grace of God, at a very crucial time and I will forever be grateful. Teaching at The Geneva School and having the privilege of taking his classes at The Reformed Seminary gave me a new and deep awareness of the character of God and all His attributes. I can still hear his love for the doctrine of Adoption. I will remember this period of time in my life with great gratitude to God and RC!
