Robert W. Steinbach
August 10, 1925 - February 2, 2023
Kansas City, Missouri - Robert W. Steinbach passed away on February 2, 2023, at his home in Bishop Spencer Place.
Bob was born August 10, 1925, in Shelbina, Missouri, to Albert W. and Marie Turner Steinbach. He graduated from Northwestern University and served in the United States Army from 1950 to 1952, at Fort Knox, Kentucky, and Fort Lewis, Washington.
On May 12, 1956, Bob married Sarah Richardson. Bob and Sally had one child, their son, Robert Bradley Steinbach. Both Sally and Brad preceded Bob in death.
Bob established an industrial commercial real estate brokerage company in 1958, Steinbach Associates, which merged with A. W. Zimmer & Company in 1981. Zimmer-Steinbach Real Estate subsequently merged with Colliers Turley Martin in 1985, where Bob continued his work in the sale and leasing of industrial and commercial properties until his retirement in 1999.
For 34 years, Bob served as Manager of the Central Industrial District Association, and was the recipient of a Resolution from the Mayor and City Council of Kansas City, Missouri, for outstanding service to Kansas City and the Central Industrial District.
Bob served as Chapter President, District Vice President and National Board Member of the Society of Industrial and Office Realtors; Board Member of the Metropolitan Real Estate of Kansas City; and was a member of the National Association of Realtors and the Missouri Real Estate Association.
He was Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Industrial Development Authority and active in many civic organizations, including the Downtown Council, of which he was a Member of the Executive Committee; the Kansas City Industrial Council, of which he was a Co-Founder and Board Member; the International Relations Council, of which he was President; Historic Kansas City Foundation, of which he was a Board Member; the State Historical Society of Missouri; Society of Fellows of the Nelson Gallery; the Sons of the American Revolution; and the Jackson County Board of Services for the Developmentally Disabled.
Bob and Sally resided in Armour Hills for more than 40 years. Bob served as President of its Homes Association in the late 1970s, and under his leadership, Armour Hills was energized and community spirit was revived. He was a Member and Senior Warden of Saint Andrew's Episcopal Church and President of Bishop Spencer Place. He received the Bishop's Shield in recognition of his service to the Bishop and People of the Episcopal Diocese of West Missouri.
Bob was a loving and devoted husband and father. He was a true gentlemen, and took a genuine interest to those with whom he was associated and their success. He cared deeply about his community and his Church, and gave much of his time and talents to each.
A remembrance and celebration of Bob's life will take place at Saint Andrew's Episcopal Church, 6401 Wornall Terrace, Kansas City, Missouri 64113, at 2 o'clock on Thursday, February 16.
