Roberta Hynes Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 21, 2017.
Roberta Marie Hynes (Lawson), age 74, of Marietta, Georgia, passed away on October 20th, 2017.

Roberta was born in Boston, MA on December 25, 1942. She graduated from Framingham South High School in 1960. She married John F. (Jack) Hynes on September 18, 1965 and settled in Medway, MA where they raised 3 boys. In 1979, the family moved to Marietta, GA where she lived ever since. Roberta is preceded in death by her husband Jack Hynes, and parents, Bob & Marie Lawson. She is survived by her beloved sister Eleanor Burke, sons Matthew, Sean (Syracuse, NY), and Timothy Hynes, her daughters- in-law Susan, Cyndi, and Suzanne Hynes, and her seven grandchildren Mitchell, Zoe, John Henry, Nate, Lee, Molly, and Michael and many nieces and nephews.
Her family wishes to express our deepest gratitude to the entire Northside Hospital team for their care.
Roberta worked and played tennis at the Old Town Athletic Club for over 20 years, her home away from home. She loved her cat Tiger and previous dogs Shamrock and Ginger and cats Daget, Blonde and Tiger. She enjoyed traveling with her sister and was able to visit Bermuda and St. Johns Canada in recent years. Over the years they went to many horse races including Churchill Downs and Keeneland in KY, Santa Anita and Del Mar in CA, Belmont in NY, and Hialeah in FL. Since her birthday was on Christmas day, it was not a surprise Christmas was her favorite season and she brought holiday cheer every year. Throughout her life she never lost her Boston Accent, although it gained a bit of southern drawl. Roberta enjoyed shopping and outings with her dear friends. She was a generous, loving spirit and her kind, gentle nature will be missed. Roberta was a very special grandmother to her seven grandchildren whom she treasured.

Visitation will be Thursday, October 26, 2017, 06:00 pm - 09:00 pm, H.M. Patterson & Son Canton Hill, 1157 Old Canton Road, Marietta, Georgia.

I am very sorry to hear of the passing of Mrs. Hynes. I have so many great memories of her going back many years....one of these memories is the time that she and her ALTA partner beat me and my ALTA partner in mixed doubles....my partner & I were the same age as Roberta's sons and the match was not even close...we lost...they won...and this was the source of a lot of jokes and laughter for a long time....such Good times. These are the types of memories....Happy... I will have when I think about Roberta. I would also like to emphasize how kind she always was to me and my family....it meant so much. I will keep Matt, Sean, Tim & the rest of the Hynes family as well as the Burke family in my thoughts and prayers. She will be greatly missed but not forgotten.

Our deepest sympathy to the Hynes and Burke families. The world lost a beautiful person. I enjoyed seeing Roberta whenever she came to see her sister and best friend Elle. She was a friend, and a loved aunt and great aunt. I will miss her and will keep everyone who loved her in my prayers. Doug and I were very lucky to have known Roberta.
