Ronnie Stevenson Obituary

Ronnie Ray Stevenson July 29, 1957 - Aug. 12, 2011 After a swift 5 month battle with stomach cancer, Ronnie Ray Stevenson has been called to rejoice as part of God's Heavenly Choir. At 2:53 a.m. on Friday, August 12th, Ronnie passed in beautiful serenity at the age of 54, surrounded by people who love him, in a house built with love. A selfless man, unwavering in faith and kindness, Ronnie will be missed but fondly remembered as the perfect husband and a great father, son, brother and friend, among other titles. For his children, Ronnie was their Lion; strong, regal and forever fearless. His spirit lives on in their every breath. His cheerful humor and forgiving nature make for a man worthy of admiration and emulation. Ronnie is predeceased by his uncle and lifelong friend, Mike Schafer. Mike played a very significant role in the shaping of Ronnie into the man we love so dearly. Along the way, Mike taught him how to hunt, fish and golf. All of these pastimes are deeply woven into Ronnie's legacy and our memories of him. Ronnie is survived by his loving wife, Pam, with whom he shared a fulfilling 8 years of marriage and an active life on Red Dog Ranch in Liberty Hill, Texas. Additionally, he is survived by his parents, Saundra and Dr. Larry Stevenson; brothers Tony and Joel and their families; first wife Becky and their three children Tiffany, Kristin and Chad; step-daughters Amy Neely and April Behrens and their families, and a countless number of loyal friends and relatives. Ronnie was the owner of Stevenson Glass and Mirror in Liberty Hill and a 40 year veteran of the trade. He was a master of his craft; honest, loyal and driven. He shined brightest, though, when he sang. Ronnie was a lifelong singer and was a member of Central Sound Quartet, a gospel group and an amazing cast of people blessed with the gift of song. Ronnie's voice could sooth the soul. Thanks to an army of loving friends, Ronnie's final days with us on this Earth were full of peace and love. To Ron, Debbie and Jenna Luzzo, as well as Larry and Billie Kay Price, who opened up their homes and their hearts, you are undoubtedly sent by God. Thank you. To the Kirkwood family and the Kemp family, your amazing friendships with Ronnie are unmatched and will make for a grand reunion one day in Heaven. For those that knew Ronnie, there will be a Celebration Service in his name on Sunday, August 21st, 3:00 p.m. at Central Baptist Church in Round Rock. All are welcome to come share their memories and to celebrate the time we were blessed to have with him. Donations will be given to Hospice Austin. I did not know Ronnie, yet it seems he was a remarkably admirable, upstanding man who brought joy to all who knew him. Pam is my cousin who I grew up with since childhood. Many wonderful memories together. I remember Pam telling us about Ronnie at a family reunion eight years ago. Her eyes sparkled, her face glowed and her smile was even more beautiful than ever. It was obvious she was very happy and of course it made all of us very happy for her as well.

Pam, your life together was cut short, but you are left with treasured memories that will remain in your heart and mind forever. The journey ahead will not be easy, but you will never be left alone. Family, friends, and mostly your God are walking beside you. Our heartfelt compassion and love go out to you and all who knew and loved your husband. He will be greatly missed, but his memory lives on.

God tells you, Pam, "In the time of trouble He will hide me in his pavillion, in the secret of his tabernacle shall He hide me. He shall set me upon a rock." Psalm 27:5

And for all us who grieve: "I will not leave you comfortless. I will come to you." John 14:18

All our love, Aunt Nettie, Sheila, and Frank

I met Ronnie almost 30 years ago through the home building industry. The time went by too fast. I always enjoyed talking with Ronnie. Pam,every time we talked he always sang high praise of you. He was proud to be your husband. We always seemed to make each other laugh no matter the subject we could find some humor in it. He always did what he said he would do for me. He was one I could count on when the schedule was tight. Stevenson Glass did the finest of work. Quality work from a quality man. Ronnie will be missed.

"Love is stronger than death even though it can't stop death from happening, but no matter how hard death tries it can't separate people from love. It can't take away our memories either. In the end, life is stronger than death."

It was a pleasure to have met you and work with you. You are truly loved and missed.

I had the pleasure and enjoyment of working with Ronnie. He was one of the kindest, warmest, friendliest human beings I've ever been around. I knew he loved to sing and he'd always ask me to sing the western TV theme song "Ringo" with him. I kept telling him that I'd never heard it, but he kept singing it anyway. I can still see and hear his infectious smile and hearty chuckle. We'd also talk of eating at Top Notch hamburgers in "the day", both of us being old Austinites. What a cool guy. He was just fun to be around. I lost track of Ronnie after I left the place we both worked at, but always thought of him and wondered how and what he was doing. You don't often get that close to a co-worker, but with Ronnie you did. He was very similar in his demeanor and approach to people that Mike Shafer had. Both super classy and spiritual gentlemen. I'm sad Ronnie has gone home. I'll always fondly and warmly remember him. God continue to bless his remaining family.
