"I AM WHERE I SHOULD BE"
Ruben Gonzalez was called home by our Father on December 12, 2017. Ruben was born on April 5, 1952 in San Antonio, Texas.
He was the fourth of five children born to Luz and Gudelia Gonzalez.
Ruben graduated from Fox Tech High School in 1970. He served his country and was honorably discharged as a Sergeant in the US Army. He was most recently employed as a Security Officer with SAS Shoes. Ruben was known for his kind soul and big heart. He knew no strangers and anyone that knows him will tell you that he would give you the shirt off his back.
Family was important to Ruben. He was a loving son, brother and uncle. He was an avid Spurs fan and never missed an opportunity to watch a game with his nephew Pedro.
Ruben was preceded in death by his father and mother, Luz and Gudelia Gonzalez; sisters Mary Jessie Roque and Edilia Rodriguez; brothers Luz Jr, Federico, and Alejandro Gonzalez; and nephew Captain Jason Gonzalez.
He is survived by his brothers Joe (Maria) and Ralph Gonzalez; sisters Anna Gonzalez Echeverri (Diego), Janie Dillard (Henry), Porfiria Riojas, Angelita Gonzalez; niece Victoria Echeverri; nephews Pedro Roque III, Jacob Gonzalez (Amanda), Gabriel Echeverri and numerous other family members who will love and miss him every day.
Visitation will be held at Funeraria Del Angel Roy Akers, 515 N. Main Ave on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m., with the Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m.
On Thursday, December 28, 2017 the Mass of Resurrection will begin at 9:00 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church at 829 Ruiz St. San Antonio, Texas 78207, with Interment to follow at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery at 10:45 a.m.

Thoughts, prayers and my condolences go out to his family. I was saddened to hear about his passing because I saw him every morning on my way into the SAS office complex and he was an absolute joy to work with. He will be missed by many.

Prayers to the Gonzalez family. Though I didn't get to know Ruben, it was a blessing to learn of all the cousins from his side of the family through his sister Mary Jessie at a reunion in San Antonio, some years back. May he rest in peace with our other relatives who've passed.
