It's with great sadness that the family of Ruth Dorothy Majercik announces her passing on Thursday, May 24 in Charlottesville, Virginia at 76 years of age. Ruth was born in Webster, Massachusetts on November 4, 1941 to Andrew Majercik and Genevieve Beatrice Moreau. She spent her childhood and early adulthood in East Templeton and Baldwinville, Massachusetts where she graduated from Narragansett Regional High prior to relocating to Santa Barbara in 1967 with her three young children, Andrea, Christopher, and Geoffrey. While living in Santa Barbara as a single parent, she became a student at UCSB where she earned her B.A., M.A. and Ph.D in Religious Studies and Classics. She married her second husband, William Richard Comstock in 1981 and became stepmother to Mark and Jonathan.
In addition to her academic pursuits as a Gnostic scholar, she was an avid reader and movie- goer, and an astute observer of politics. She enjoyed long walks and visits to the Santa Barbara Zoo and Natural History Museum where she delighted in taking her three grandchildren, Danielle, Kyle, and Melitta. In her later years she was the sole caregiver to her husband as he progressed into Alzheimer's prior to his passing in 2013. After becoming stricken with severe dementia herself, the family relocated her from Santa Barbara to Virginia closer to her daughter in Charlottesville where she received expert care and comfort leading to a meaningful final three years.
Ruth leaves behind her children Andrea, Christopher, Geoffrey, Mark and Jonathan, grandchildren Danielle, Kyle, and Melitta, and her brother David and sisters Martha and Mary.
The family requests that donations in Ruth's honor be sent to: Alzheimer's Association https://m.alz.org/

It is so difficult to realize that cousin Ruthie is gone..I remember her fondly putting on plays, coming up with creative activities etc for her many younger cousins. We all looked up to her. I remember her with her first daughter, Andrea Kauppinen, and being so proud of her beautiful child. I am so glad she had a wonderful life in California and spent her last days with Andrea in Virginia. We will never forget her.

Please accept our condolences on the passing of your mother, Ruth. We saw her often as we visited Mom (Ann Pastore). We will always remember your mom dancing at the big Rosewood parties, and how much she enjoyed the music. And we will remember the way she stood at her doorway watching the passing people, and her friendliness towards us. Our thoughts are with you. Joe and Lisa
