Ryan Chandler Obituary

Chandler, Ryan
1967 - 2018
It is with immense sadness and completely broken hearts that the family of Ryan Scott Chandler announce his unexpected death on Friday, June 29, 2018 in Dublin, Ohio. However, it is with great joy that we honor his vibrant life on Earth and celebrate his passage to eternal life in heaven. The family will welcome friends from 4-8 p.m. Friday, July 6 at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Rd., Columbus, Ohio 43221, where a funeral service officiated by Father Godfrey Andoh will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 7, 2018. Ryan was born in Conneaut, Ohio on May 30, 1967 to Mary Frances and Carlton Arthur Chandler. He graduated from Edgewood High School in 1985 and attended Baldwin Wallace University earning dual degrees in business and sports management. He started his career with E & J Gallo Winery in Rock Hill, South Carolina. His first promotion transferred him to Hattiesburg, MS where he met the love of his life, Erin. Their mutual love of laughter, of family, and living life to the fullest drew them together and created a lasting bond. They married in 1997 and started a wonderful adventure that took them to New Orleans, Dallas and finally Dublin where he was the General Manager for Southern Glazer's Wine and Spirits of Ohio. He loved his profession and worked hard to maintain the relationships he established in all of the varying positions he held. Ryan was a driven, astute, soft-hearted, loyal, sarcastic, fun-loving, competitive and compassionate man. He dearly loved his Ohio State Buckeyes and was a lifelong LA Laker fan (and will not be happy with their pick because he thought the beloved LeBron is past his prime!). He worked hard and played hard and enjoyed every minute of his short life. He rejoiced in life's victories and dealt with its disappointments in a determined, honest and optimistic way. He was quick-witted and had a self-deprecating humor that brought many a belly laugh to those around him. He was a consummate nicknamer and had comedic timing with comments and descriptions that always kept us rolling. He obsessed over junior golf and spent much of his free time reading, researching and following the progress of so many great golfers around Ohio. He loved 80s and 90s music and had an outrageous devotion of all things Bob Schneider. He even planned his and Erin's 20th anniversary around Bob's East Coast tour. He built a life for his family by constantly setting goals and working hard to accomplish them while always making sure they had fun along the way! His greatest accomplishments by far are his two children, Jackson and Olivia. He loved nothing more than spending time with them on the golf course, volleyball court or lacrosse field. He invested so much of his time and energy helping Jackson develop into the golfer he is today, and their bond was formidable. He adored Olivia and was constantly impressed with her own drive and commitment to sports and school. He was so proud of the young adults they are becoming, and although they did not get nearly enough time with him, his love, wisdom, work ethic and guidance will remain in them forever. Ryan is survived by his wife of 21 years, Erin Ellender Chandler; and his children, Jackson, 17, and Olivia, 16, of Dublin; his mother, Mary and her husband, Neil McVann of Rock Hill, SC; and his sister, Shelly Chandler and her husband, Troy Dugo of Belmont, NC. He also leaves behind aunts and uncles, including Gary and Sandy Chandler, Ken and Patty Green, both of Conneaut; Herb Green of Jefferson; Dan and Barb Chandler of Ashtabula; Linda and Karl Meier of Thompson; Ethel Chandler of Pierpont; as well as several much loved cousins. His in-laws considered him a beloved son and brother and Drs. R.D. and Barbara Ellender of Hattiesburg, MS; Holly and Brent Christensen of Greensboro, NC; and Dr. Caroline and Jonathan Compretta of Jackson, MS; will miss him tremendously. He was a fun and loving uncle to Dylan Price; Connor, William and Annabeth Christensen; and Trey, Ben and Andrew Compretta. Ryan was truly one of a kind, and he will be missed on a level his family can't even describe. He was preceded in death by his father, Carlton "Tot" Chandler and his grandparents, Herb and Betty Green and Walter and Delma Chandler. Erin, Jackson & Olivia,

I grew up a very close cousin to Ryan. He was only a year older than I, but I looked up to him as if it were much more. I did not realize it at the time, but I idolized him. I idolized him because of the way he carried himself. He had an unspoken confidence about him; a charismatic swagger. It was this charisma and confidence that I repeatedly heard in people's comments at his funeral. They saw and felt it, too. He had a gift when it came to interacting with people. He could talk with anyone. He made people comfortable. He made people smile and laugh. His laugh was infectious and welcoming. He will be sorely missed. My deepest sympathy is with you.

Erin, Jackson and Olivia,
I am saddened to hear about Ryan's untimely passing. Ryan and I worked together at Gallo Wine Company of Louisiana back in the late 90s. He was the consummate professional...hard working, passionate about his vocation and such a delight to be around. Having read his obituary and the comments that followed, it's obvious that was shared by all that knew him.

Please know that Ryan and your family are in our prayers. He will always be present in our lives because he lives in our hearts!

To Ryan's family:
I had the pleasure of meeting Ryan first in Dallas, TX as a young recruit with the Gallo Winery. Ryan was an Area Manager at the time inside Glazer's. He was one of those people I looked up to and who proved I had made an amazing choice to be in our industry working amongst the best people! Then I move to Cincinnati many years later with the Winery only to hear Ryan was moving to manage the Glazer business in Columbus! You couldn't help but laugh and smile around him and I feel lucky I had the chance to know him. May God bless him and each of you! I pray your memories keep him alive in your hearts and your dreams until you meet again.

We had the good fortune to get to know Ryan through junior golf and he'd always approach us on random courses throughout the region with a big hug and a long list of questions about how everything was going. Though we'd start with golf, our talks would proceed to cover work, family, life, and everything in between. We cherish the memories we have of him and only wish we'd had the chance to make more. We hope to live life the way Ryan did, full of curiosity, intensity, mischief, honesty and love.

Erin, Jackson, Olivia,
I am so sorry to hear of Ryan's untimely passing. My job as training manager at Gallo allowed me to work with Ryan in most of his assignments at Gallo - So.Carolina, Mississippi, Texas, etc., and I will always remember his infectious laugh and his diligent work ethic. We always had so much fun together. He was always destined to be a great success with passion about his work and respect for all of the people that he worked with. I am sure that there is a special place in heaven from where he will continue to look after you and guide you through your lives!!!

Every meal I had while traveling with Ryan was just so fun. Listening to him talk about HIS Lakers would turn any meal into an episode of Sports Center. For his family I hope you know how much he was respected and LOVED by all that worked with him. I learned so much by just watching and listening to him and how he conducted his business with professionalism, humor, dignity and honesty. I've attached the photo I would've emailed Ryan. My subject line would've been: "The Greatest of All Time with some guy from Cleveland."

Erin, Jackson and Olivia please know that the Lord will always be holding you close to Him and will always supply you w the strength you need. Your dad touched so many people's lives and please know that we will keep you wrapped in prayer. Your dad was one of a kind, always laughing and always smiling, and he was like a younger brother to me. While he may have left his earthly home, he will live eternally not only in Heaven but in your hearts as well. While you may not be able to see him, he is always with you. From Joshua 1:9 Be bold. Be brave. Be courageous. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go. - And so will your dad.

What a beautiful tribute for a beautiful man. I was fortunate to have crossed paths with Ryan back at Baldwin-Wallace College and as members of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. What a great guy to be around - very friendly, personable and charismatic. His sense of humor and constant friendly smirk always brightened up my day. My thoughts are with Ryan's wife and children.

Heaven just got even that much more enjoyable with Ryan present. Vir Quiske Vir.

As with all, I am shocked and saddened by the loss of Ryan. The obituary so clearly capsulized the Ryan whom we loved to see, enjoyed being with and will miss. My thoughts go out to Erin, their children and all those who loved and will miss Ryan. Our SGWS meetings will not be the same without him. Rest in peace my friend and may your spirit and memories help ease the pain of your loss for your family and loved ones.
