Sheila Provenza Obituary

Sheila Provenza, age 64, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at her home in Kenner, Louisiana surrounded by her loving family. She was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on August 9, 1953 to the late Robert Lee and Gloria Devillier Tubre. Sheila is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 46 years, Vincent Provenza; her two daughters, Kristen and Kerri Provenza; her granddaughters, Katherine and Allison Benko; her four brothers, Robert (Susan), Craig (Vicky), Daniel and Terry Tubre; father-in-law, Johnny Provenza; brother-in-law, Frank Provenza and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents and mother-in-law, Sara Provenza. In addition to spending time with her family, Sheila loved to garden and play tennis. She was well known for her beautiful gardens, as well as those she planted for friends and family. She was such a perfectionist with landscaping, that she fired Kerri's landscaper several years ago and bought her a lawnmower as a birthday present! It's still a joke among the family, particularly since neither of her daughters inherited her gardening expertise. Sheila also played on various tennis leagues, including Driftwood Park, Green Acres and City Park, and valued her time on and off the court with cherished friends. Her last tennis match was with her husband and her grandchildren. Sheila was active in her community, particularly during her 35 years in Driftwood Park where she once reigned as Queen of the Krewe of Driftwood. She coached her children's cabbageball teams and was a Girl Scout co-leader. Sheila and Vince frequently visited Orange Beach, AL, where she enjoyed daily beach walks. She often met with sea turtle volunteers and followed hatching schedules. She had an immense love for her family, friends, and nature. Sheila never questioned the reasoning behind her illness, and stayed steadfast in her faith and love for God. She prayed the rosary daily, with each bead dedicated to a specific family member or friend. She was a parishioner of Divine Mercy in Kenner, and Our Lady of the Gulf in Orange Beach. She will be missed dearly by everyone who knew her. Special thanks are extended to the doctors and staff of MD Anderson Cancer Center and East Jefferson General Hospital. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass on Thursday, February 22, 2018 at 12:00 noon at the chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. New Orleans, Louisiana 70124. A visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. until Mass. Interment will follow at All Saints Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to MD Anderson Cancer Center, www.mdanderson.org.
