SIDNEY ROSENTHAL Obituary

ROSENTHAL, Sidney J. Gentle, Humble, Self made Age 94 years, of Palm Beach, FL, formerly of Chestnut Hill, MA, passed away on May 22, 2022, surrounded by his loving family. Sid is survived by his wife Roberta Frost Rosenthal; his son Joseph "Josh" Rosenthal and his wife Rebecca Mayer, and their children Lindsay Rosenthal and Nicholas Rosenthal of Providence, RI, and John Rosenthal and his wife Maureen Berkley of Gloucester, MA; and Roberta's children, Amy, Judy and Jimmy Saltz. Sid was predeceased by his beloved wife of 58 years, Marilyn Gordon Rosenthal, formerly of Brookline, MA; and sisters Emily Levitas and Eleanor Hirsh formerly of Baltimore, MD; and his grandson Nathan Huggins-Rosenthal, formerly of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Born September 8, 1927 to the late Joseph Sidney Rosenthal & Beatrice Hoffman Rosenthal in Baltimore, MD. Sid attended public school in Baltimore, MD; served in World War II in the U.S. Coast Guard; attended St. John's College in Annapolis, MD; University of Oslo, Norway; University of Baltimore and Suffolk Law School in Boston, MA, and was admitted to both the Massachusetts and Federal Bar. Sidney was loving, gentle, handsome, funny, gracious, and a great ballroom dancer. Sidney, aka "Uncle Duck" (because he did the best Donald Duck imitation any kid has ever heard) was quiet, humble, generous, and self-made. He didn't graduate from high school or college but went to law school at night and worked as a carpenter for his day job. He founded Meredith Management and developed and managed many residential and commercial properties in Massachusetts, Florida, and Texas. He developed the first mixed income affordable housing complex financed by MassHousing in 1969 and many real estate professionals considered Sidney the "Father of affordable housing" in Massachusetts. Meredith, now led by his son, John, is currently co-developing the Fenway Center Air Rights Project over the Mass Pike and next to Fenway Park in Boston. It is one of the largest mixed use air rights developments built over the Mass Pike in the Commonwealth. Sidney was formerly President of the Builder's Association of Greater Boston and Grove Hall Savings Bank and served on various Boards of Directors including Grove Hall Savings Bank, Liberty Bank & Trust, Builder's Association of Greater Boston, National Association of Home Builders, Boston Real Estate Board, Rental Housing Association of Boston, Regent Bank, FL and Suffolk Law School – Dean's Advisory Committee. Sidney was a passionate and exceptional golfer, who loved playing with his beloved wife Roberta. Sidney was Senior Club Golf Champion at Belmont Country Club during the 1980's and 1990's, and scored six Holes in One since 1947. He out-drove people half his age and consecutively scored at or below his age during the years between 2000 and 2010. Graveside Services will be held at 11am on Friday, May 27, at the Crawford St. Memorial Park, 776 Baker St., West Roxbury, MA. John: My sincerest sympathy to you and your family. It was an honor to be Sid´s physician for many years. I looked forward to his visits. He often provided me with good golf tips which I needed as a new golfer. For every good tip, I would waive his co-pay. I also had privilege of playing with him. He was demonstrated excellent athleticism in his typically understated manner. "A live well lived."

Sid was a true gentleman in every sense of the word. He was also the most organized person I ever met! I was fortunate to work at Meredith Management for close to twenty years. I learned a lot about real estate during that time, and as a result, I landed a successful career. My sincere condolences to the entire family. A long life well lived. He will be very missed.

John your father was a great golfer ! I played a few holes now and then with Sidney.
He was my friend and I advised him to buy a new driver that resembles the size of a head! He listened.
My sincere condolences.
