Sidney Wilfong Obituary
A native of Catawba County, he was the son of the late John Edwin and Lula Pearl Abernethy Wilfong.
Mr. Wilfong was a United States Navy veteran and a lifelong member of First ARP Church in Gastonia, where he was a former Deacon. He was a graduate of Gastonia High School and liked to golf, fish and was a western square dancer for over 40 years. He danced with the Rebel Reelers and the Grand Spinners.
He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Carol Jetton Irvin; daughter, Wanda W. Jones; sister, Mary Wilson; granddaughter, Leigh Ann Humphries and husband Jeff; great grandchildren, Tyler Humphries, Kylie Humphries, Allyson Sidney Humphries; stepchildren, Beth Irvin, John Irvin (Shannon Lovelady) and Duane Irvin (Kathy Ginn).
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife of 51 years, Clarene Hilton Wilfong; and brother, Earle A. Wilfong.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at First ARP Church in Gastonia with Pastor Matt Kuiken officiating.
Burial will be private.
The family will receive friends after the service at the church.
"A golden heart stopped beating and hardworking hands were put to rest. We will miss him so much."
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First ARP Church Carroll Cottage, 317 S Chester St, Gastonia, NC 28052.
