Steven Krakoff Obituary

STEVEN KRAKOFF

Steven Paul Krakoff, age 61, died October 16, 2017 after fighting a short but courageous battle with a very aggressive cancer. He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Krakoff. Steve is survived by his mother, Corinne Krakoff of Toledo, Ohio; wife of 27 years, Diane; daughters, Kathryn and Sarah; brother, David (Lorna); uncle, Irwin Krakoff (Rosemary Mackey); and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Steve graduated from Whitmer High School in Toledo in 1973 and received a bachelor's degree of Urban Planning from the University of Cincinnati in 1978 where he was a member of the Alpha Epsilon Pi Fraternity. He obtained his Master of Business Administration degree from The Ohio State University in 1983. He worked at Hillenbrand Industries in Batesville, IN as a Marketing Manager and then was employed by Mount Carmel Health in the 1980s and 1990s in a variety of positions including Vice President, Regional Development and Specialty Services. From 2000-2006 Steve was employed by The Ohio State University Medical Center as Administrator. He directed the development of the medical center master facility plan which included the Richard M. Ross Heart Hospital and the initial plans for the siting and construction of the James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute. From 2008-present, Steve was employed by Bowling Green State University where he was Vice President for Capital Planning and Campus Operations. He led the planning and implementation of the largest building and renovation program in BGSU history. He was a member of the President's Cabinet and had completed coursework for his Ed.D in Leadership Studies and was working on his dissertation. Steve also participated on committees that collaborated with the city of Bowling Green on various projects. Steve loved his family, vacationing on Kiawah Island, SC, and was an avid OSU football fan. Calling hours are 4 p.m.-7 p.m. Sunday, October 22, 2017 at Schoedinger Worthington Chapel, 6699 High Street, Worthington, where a funeral service will be held on Monday, October 23, 2017 at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Lewis Center. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Bowling Green State University Foundation, 132 Administration Building, Bowling Green, OH 43403, where donations will fund the Steven P. Krakoff Scholarship to support BGSU students. A Celebration of Steve's Life will take place at BGSU in the future. Please visit www.schoedinger.com to express condolences.

I just heard of Steven's passing. My deepest condolences to his family and friends. I knew Steven well years ago and as I read through his obituary it is clear to me that he achieved much in his brief time here. I am thankful that I knew this kind and gentle man.

I was so sorry to hear about the sudden loss of Steve. I worked with him while I was Dean of the College of Health and Human Services at BGSU. He was a great colleague and supporter of our successful renovation project. My heart goes out to his family and friends. He will be missed!
