Susan Estill Obituary

Susan Estill
05/30/1941 - 11/26/2024
Susan Kay Young Estill passed away on November 26, 2024, at the age of 83, after a short battle with cancer. She was born on May 30, 1941, in Massillon, Ohio (Stark County). Her parents were Koehler King Young, DDS, and Carrie Elizabeth Osborne Young.
Susan graduated from Washington High School in Massillon, Ohio in 1959, and from St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing in Cleveland, Ohio in 1952. She completed the Cardiovascular Nurse Specialist Program at Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas in 1968. Following that, she was employed as a Registered Nurse at several different hospitals in Cleveland, Massillon, and Houston. While in Houston, she met Robert Embry Estill, and they were married on September 4, 1970. An avid cook and baker, she dedicated her life to being a homemaker, pouring her love and many talents into making a home for her husband and their daughters.
Susan was involved in numerous volunteer and community service endeavors in Houston. From 1971 to the present, she was a member of St. Philip Presbyterian Church, where she served as Deacon, Elder, and Trustee. In 2014, after more than 20 years of service, she was honored as Newsletter Editor Emerita of St. Philip's newsletter, the Philip-Eye. She served on the Board of Brazos Presbyterian Homes, including two years as Board Chairman, as well as on the Board of Interface Samaritan Counseling Centers. She was also an active volunteer at Christian Community Service Center (CCSC) and Meals on Wheels.
Susan is survived by her husband, Robert Embry Estill, her sister, Sally Ann Young Thomerson, and her daughters, Emily Susan Estill and Julie Louise Estill.
A Memorial service to celebrate Susan's life will be held on Monday, December 23, 2024, at 11:00 am, in the sanctuary at St. Philip Presbyterian Church, 4807 San Felipe, in Houston. Following the service, there will be a reception with the opportunity to greet the family.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests that donations be made in Susan's memory to St. Philip, CCSC, Meals on Wheels, or the charity of your choice.

Remembering Susan --

It doesn't seem long ago that our families met when our daughters attended middle school together, and the memories began. There were field trips, school projects, and sleepovers. Our daughters are still good friends, though they have their careers and live far apart.

I am sorry that I am unable to attend the Memorial Service, but my thoughts and prayers are with the whole family. May God bless and comfort Robert, Julie, and Emily.

We were shocked and saddened to learn that our dear friend, Susan, had passed away so suddenly. She lived a purposed life, helping many in need. She will truly be missed.
