Thomas Lloyd Obituary

Thomas Harold Lloyd, Jr.

Thomas Harold Lloyd, Jr., computer scientist and longtime Red Bank resident, died unexpectedly on July 13, 2021 at the age of 69 while traveling in Florida.

Thomas is survived by his wife, Kathleen Lloyd (née Flaherty); his children Thomas Lloyd, Shannon Eagan, and Kelly Lloyd; his granddaughter Olive Maria; and his siblings Vincent Lloyd, Sr. Mary Elizabeth Lloyd, and Dr. William Lloyd.

Thomas was born on October 9, 1951 in Long Branch, NJ to Thomas Lloyd, Sr. and Mary Catherine Concannon. He was raised in Little Silver, NJ and attended St. James Elementary and Red Bank Catholic High School. At the age of 13 he became the youngest person in NJ to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout and was presented a letter of recognition by President Johnson. He received a B.S. in Biology from Seton Hall University and an M.S.C.S. from Stevens Institute of Technology. He soon became an integral part in the early development of computer networking at Bell Labs and eventually started his own successful computer consulting company, Lloyd Consultants, Inc. Thomas and Kathleen met while studying at Seton Hall University and married on June 27, 1976. They recently celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary.

Thomas was a parishioner and former Extraordinary Minister of St. James Catholic Church and member of the fraternal service organizations, Knights of Columbus and Odd Fellows. He was a regular participant in the Polar Bear Plunge, helped organize annual Matt Talbot retreats, and was an active member in a twelve-step program.

Thomas was a loving father and grandfather, devoted husband, and loyal friend. He had a generous spirit and was an inspired artist, carpenter, and craftsman. He will be missed dearly.

Tom was one of the best people and friends I´ve ever met. We met as Bio majors at Seton Hall & developed a deep & lasting friendship. He was very funny, talented, enthusiastic about life and would never, ever let you down. The world is a lonelier place without him. God bless, Kathy & family.

Kathy and Family,
Tom was a terrific friend who went out of his way to come N.C. to make sure I was ok after my wife died. It seems unfair that while on that trip he didn't make it home.
How little we know about the purpose God has in mind for us. Tom has been there for so many people.
God bless you Tom and family.
Love Alan Held

I'm shocked and saddened at the loss of my old High School friend. He was always there to lend a hand or offer advice and I will miss him dearly as I know all of his family and friends will. Rest in Peace, Tom.

If walls could talk....they would all agree that you were fun, intelligent, had a great sense of humor and purpose. I can only smile at some of our antics when we were young - the world needs more Tom Lloyds. Rest In Peace good sir!
