Thomas Allen Rollow
Thomas Allen Rollow, Jr. passed away peacefully at home on December 9, 2022 from complications of Parkinson's Disease with his family by his side. He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Paula Medeiros Rollow; daughter, Stephanie Rollow of Arlington, Virginia; and son, Thomas (Jessica) Rollow, III and granddaughter Madison of Kingston, Massachusetts. Tom was born to Thomas Rollow and Bonnie Carter Rollow in Naval Hospital Jacksonville, FL. He grew up in Lafayette, LA, and in 1975 graduated from Tulane University with a BS in mechanical engineering and was commissioned as an Ensign in the U.S. Navy. Tom served his active duty for Naval Reactors and retired from the Naval Reserve in 2005 as a Captain. He also received a MS equivalent in nuclear engineering from the Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory Reactor Engineering School in Pittsburgh, PA and a MS in engineering administration from The George Washington University in Washington, DC. Tom spent his 34-year federal career in the Washington, DC area, Idaho Falls, ID, and Charleston, SC, where he held increasing technical and managerial responsibilities in safety, engineering, program management, and naval and federal nuclear facilities safety and management. He retired as the Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Navy (Safety) in 2012. Tom loved snow skiing, boating, water skiing, and traveling. He was heavily involved in organizing and leading activities and ski trips to New England, out West, and Europe for the Ski Club of Washington, DC (SCWDC). Tom was an excellent skier and one of the top racers in SCWDC. He met Paula in the ski club and maintained friendships with others from the ski club until his death. He and Paula went on an Alaskan cruise, a Mediterranean cruise, a Baltic cruise, and to Punta Cana and Mexico many times with ski club friends. Tom and his family spent many weekends boating and water skiing at lakes and rivers in Idaho, South Carolina, and Virginia. A celebration of life will be held on January 7, 2023 at 1 p.m. at South Run Baptist Church, 8712 Selger Dr, Springfield, VA. Inurnment will take place at a future date at Arlington National Cemetery.
