Travis Selje Obituary
He passed away May 5, 2017, surrounded by family, as a result of injuries sustained in a horrific motor vehicle collision on May 3, 2017.
He was born March 5, 2000 in Langley, BC, the son of Miki and Carola Selje.
He attended Martha Currie Elementary School, Burnaby Central Secondary School and Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary School all the while being a straight A honour roll student.
A hard working self sufficient young man whose mottos were
"Do what you have to do, then do what you want to do" along with "1% luck + 99% hard work = 100% success"
Travis was an amazing athlete, starting organized sports at the age of 5 with Surrey United Soccer Club from 2005 to 2012. At the same time he joined the Cloverdale Minor Baseball Association where he was a member of the Provincial and Western Canadian Championship winning team. In 2012, he decided to focus solely on soccer joining the Vancouver Whitecaps Pre-Residency program until 2015 at which time he graduated to the Whitecaps Residency program. In 2016 he returned to the Surrey United SC U16/U18 squad while also a member of Team BC Soccer, with which he was to go to the Canada Games this August.
Travis was a talented and versatile player, along with being a fierce competitor but always had a smile and encouraging words for his teammates. He was an incredible leader on and off the field, highly respected by both teammates and adversaries.
Travis is survived by his parents Miki and Carola, his sister Sara and his uncle Markus. He also leaves behind his grandparents, Gerhard Selje, Hilda Zeyda and Wilfried and Monika Warth.
Travis, a young man any family would be proud to call their own, will be greatly missed, but never forgotten by so many. RIP my friend.

Remembrance viewing hours will be Tuesday May 16th 4:30-7:00 pm. at Henderson's Funeral home.
A Celebration of Life ceremony for all, will be held on Wednesday May 17th, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the Cloverdale Baptist Church 18685 64th Ave, Surrey, BC V3S 8X3.
In lieu of flowers, donations to The Royal Columbian Hospital, Surrey United Soccer Club or Cloverdale Minor Baseball Association would be much appreciated.

The Travis Selje Effect
At a time when words seem meaningless and offer little comfort, sometimes all we can do is speak through our actions. The Travis Selje Effect:
Be kind. Be a leader and a mentor. Be the very best version of YOU. Help the underdog. Be polite and respectful. When you meet someone, look them in the eye and shake their hand. Travis always did that.
Use your life to make the world a better place. Be an amazing loyal best friend, like Travis was to my son. Work hard. Push yourself. Then push yourself again. Never give up. Laugh often. Light up the room with your smile. Tell the truth. Love your family. Have fun. Bring people up when they are down. Be positive. Give everything you have. Every time. Encourage others. Strive for excellence. Be persistent. Be the reason someone wants to be better or do better, even if they are your competitor. Respect the law. ADS: Always. Drive. Sober. Always. This was Travis and so much more.

I thought long and hard about what to write here, and in the end I came up with nothing, because words will never suffice.
We all have a lot of memories together and that is the only comfort that my family has. Hopefully you too, in time, will find some sort of comfort.
I thought I knew Travis well after spending so many vacations, dinners & marshmallow roasts together, but I am in awe at how many people and how far reaching his impact was, truly amazing. It is a testament to the great man he had become and to the great parenting he received.
You know if I could, I would call "the guy" and fix this in a heartbeat.

Travis and Sara were raised the right way. Loving devoted parents. They expected them to be at their best and then they provided all the attention and tools that they needed to do just that. Travis was a gentle and humble role model. Good at all he undertook. Never one to miss an assignment or show regret or remorse, not one to blame or be discouraged. What a fine son ! We,who are privileged to care for the Selje Family, are heart broken. Our lives, like so many, but especially his wonderful intimate family, are not going to be the same and we will always pause to remember one of the best.
