Virginia HECK Obituary

News Death Notice

HECK (Schoenlein), Virginia A. "Ginny" 65, of Dayton, passed away Friday July 3rd 2015 peacefully surrounded by family. Ginny is survived by her longtime companion - Leo Wasserman, her son, Douglas and Vanessa Heck, her daughter-in-law; her daughter, Kristina and Douglass Hargett, her son-in-law; three wonderful granddaughters: Jaden (14), Lydia (11), and Audrey (8); her brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Bonita Schoenlein; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas and her parents, Albert and Anna Schoenlein. Ginny was a fifty year cancer survivor and celebrated life. She graduated from Carroll High School and married Thomas in May 1969. Together, they raised their family in Centerville. She worked for many years in Dr. Charles Dickerson's dental office and then in the MetLife's customer response center. Both roles allowed her 'people-oriented and relationship building' qualities to shine. She was an active member of the philanthropic sorority Beta Sigma Phi. Later in life, Ginny treasured spending time with her 3 granddaughters and family, traveling throughout the country, going to theater/concert performances, walks in the arboretum, and even an occasional tandem bike ride. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday July 10th 2015 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 411 East Second Street, Dayton, Ohio 45402. Prior to mass, visitation at St. Joseph will be held from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM to offer respect to Ginny and her family. Interment Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her honor to: Stand Up to Cancer Organization, www.standup2cancer.org, P.O. Box 843721, Los Angeles, CA 90084-3721. TOBIAS FUNERAL HOME - FAR HILLS CHAPEL, in care of arrangements. Online condolences may be sent to www.tobiasfuneralhome.com.

I have fond childhood memories of Ginny when we would go to Dayton and celebrate the holidays with Uncle Tom, Aunt Bonnie and family. She was always a beautiful and kind person. My deepest sympathy to Doug, Kristy, Uncle Tom and family.

Ginny, my dear cousin, we grew up together since we were toddlers, had fun as teenagers and I was in her wedding. We spent a lot of holidays and overnights, had some good times. I planned on her coming to Indpls this summer for an "overnight" but the Lord wanted her back so we will have to catch up when we meet again. Thoughts and prayers to her children and grandchildren and brother Tom. Rest In Peace Ginny.

Virginia, and it was always Virginia to me, was my first friend! She and I grew up on Farnham Ave. in Dayton and knew each other since the age of 5. Many, many fond memories....tents made of heavy blankets draped over the branch of their cherry tree; playing "statue" and croquet in the large yard and so much more. We laughed alot in those days. My heart goes out to her children, granddaughters and brother Tom and wife Bonnie. She was such a good soul. Bless you all.
