Walter Werner Obituary

Walter Myers Werner of Downingtown Walter Myers Werner, 88, passed in the early morning hours of Monday, January 4, 2016. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Elizabeth “Betty” Werner (Illingsworth). Walter grew up in Philadelphia as the youngest of three children to mother, Ella Werner and step-father, William Sasse. Walter was drafted into the Army Air Force at the age of 17, during his senior year of high school and proudly served for two years as an airplane and engine mechanic, receiving a WWII Victory Medal for his service, as part of the Squadron B, 413th Army Air Force Base Unit. As Walter’s career as a design engineer flourished, he received over 100 patents worldwide. He would later retire from AMP in the early 90’s, after 25 years with the company, and enjoyed being surrounded by his grandchildren and great grandchildren, sharing with everyone his lifelong passion of trains and airplanes. He was predeceased by siblings, Florence Powell of Broomall, Pa. and brother Charles Werner of Juniper, Fla. In addition to his wife, Walter is also survived by their four children: his eldest daughter, Donna Kenworthey and son-in-law, Bill Kenworthey, of Downingtown; son, Walter M. Werner and daughter-in-law, Melissa Werner of East Earl; daughter, Ellen Werner of Holyoke, Mass.; and son, Christopher Werner of Downingtown. Walter had six grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and another great grandchild on the way. Anytime someone would ask how he was, he’d always respond by saying…”I’m tremendous!” and he was. A one-of-a-kind, tremendous man. Rest in Peace. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, January 8, at the James J. Terry Funeral Home, 736 E. Lancaster Ave., Downingtown, where family and friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Interment will be in Philadelphia Memorial Park, Frazer. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to AseraCare Hospice, 411 Eagleview Blvd., Suite 114, Exton, PA 19341. Arrangements are being handled by the James J. Oh the stories you used to tell of your journey thru this humanly life. Now, on the reunion of your Loving wife(Betty) I take a moment to reflect and add comment - something I usually do much more promptly. You surely added a whole lot to our entire New/Werner Family.I shall always remember the time you somehow got a real 2x4 lumber speared thru your lft. front wheelwell into driver's door -such that you had to get in the passenger side, lol!! May your Heavenly life be more complete now that Betty has joined you- Until we meet again my Beloved Cous!!!! Rest In Peace Dave Grandon
