WAYNE C. WHISLER

WAYNE C. WHISLER, 93, of Fort Wayne, passed away Sunday, June 17, 2018. Born June 21, 1924, in Fort Wayne, he was the son of the late Cassius and Ann (Bender) Whisler. He served in U.S. Navy Seabees in World War II, worked at Fruehauf Trailers as a welder, and was President of Fruehauf and Phelps Dodge Credit Union. Wayne will be remembered for his infectious charm and sense of humor, sharp wit, and the principled life he led. He was also an avid Indiana University fan and enjoyed traveling with his late wife of 69 years, Dorothy (Leininger) Whisler. He is survived by his children Diane, David (Ally) and Daniel (Carol); five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, three step great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren and one step great-great-grandchild; brother-in-law, Stephen (Donna) Leininger; a niece and nephew. The family expresses its sincere gratitude to the wonderful people at Woodview Assisted Living and Memory Care and Heartland Hospice. "Those who care for the elderly are the best people on earth." Funeral service is 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 27, 2018, at D.O. McComb & Sons Maplewood Park Funeral Home, 4017 Maplecrest Road, with calling one hour prior. Chaplain Charlene Rorick officiating.
