William Joseph "Bill" Hankins Jr.

William Joseph Hankins, Jr., 93, of New Orleans, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on February 22, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. William, or Bill, as he was known to his friends and colleagues, graduated from Jesuit High School in 1948 and attended Louisiana State University. As a member of the U.S. Army, he proudly served as a combat veteran in the Korean War, 2nd Battalion, 7th Infantry Regiment. Bill worked for New Orleans Public Service Inc. (NOPSI) from 1953-1991, as an electrical engineer, and owned a real estate company for many years. After retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his family, golfing, dancing, and volunteering at his church and local Veterans' organizations. Bill was a devout Catholic and a parishioner of St. Philip Neri Church in Metairie, where he also served as a Eucharistic minister. He was a member of the American Legion and the New Orleans Golf Association. He would often be seen regularly playing golf at Belle Terre Country Club, or dancing at the Jefferson Orleans. He was an avid fan of the New Orleans Saints and the LSU Tigers. He valued his faith, family and friends above all. Bill is survived by his children, Jan Pagragan, William J. Hankins, III (Marci), Kim Stockwell (Dan), Susan Peterson (John), and Stephanie Raziano (Todd); his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Joey (Amy), Jordan, Blake (Amy), Chase, Samantha, Cameron, Brooke, Carson, Courtney, Lily, Charlotte, and Bennett; his sisters, Joan Eckholdt and Claudette Villalobos; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He is preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Beverly Ann Quartano; his parent's former state representative, William Hankins, Sr., and Edna Hankins; and his sisters Edna Mae Tillman and Theresa Casey. Relatives and friends are invited to the visitation at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans, on Saturday, March 2, 2024, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The Funeral Mass will be held in the chapel of the funeral home at 11:00 a.m., followed by the interment at All Saints Mausoleum in Metairie Cemetery. Bill's quick wit and laughter will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. "I can do all things through Him who strengthens and empowers me" (Philippians 4:13).
