Wynemia DeVries Obituary

Wynemia (Nema) DeVries
January 17, 2025
On January 17th, Wynemia (Nema) DeVries was reunited in Heaven with the love of her life, her adoring husband of 55 years, Edward J. DeVries (retired USAF) (12/2/34-8/18/07). She was born in Alma, AR. For her 80th birthday, Alma's mayor declared May 13th as "Nema DeVries Day". She died peacefully at home surrounded by her family at the age of 87 1/2. Nema was a Christian and believed in Salvation.

Nema was proud to be the eldest daughter of Goldie Hugill and Woodrow Coomer. She adored her sisters: Rita Coomer Fleming (Rick, Renee, Ryan), Marlene Coomer Cook (2/4/46 – 1/27/25) (Shelli, Steve), Vicki Hugill Gallion, and Debbie Hugill Wallenter. She always found time to visit them and included them in many of her adventures.

Nema and Ed raised 5 children: Edward V. DeVries (Patty), Michael De Vries (11/18/58 - 8/11/19), Pamela Farris (Larry), Dana DeVries (Gary Allen), and Raymond DeVries (9/26/63 – 11/17/08). Nema's heart was so big that she took in Lea Rongey as a daughter and her son, James Gordon, as a grandson. Over 50 years ago, she adopted another daughter, Edna Moreno. Nema enjoyed the company of her dog and protector, Star, and her playful cat, Buddy.

Mema loved all her grandkids and great grandkids. Ed's: Edward, Matthew (Sophia). Mike's: Justin and wife Heather (Lane, Gavin (10/23/03 – 4/18/2024), Brody), Drew (6/29/82-11/23/15). Pam's: Bryon Farris, Brooke Reese (Charlotte, Jude (2/29/24 - 5/18/24). Ray's: Jerred and wife Kimberley (Kennedy), Keith (9/2/89-9/7/13).

Military assignments took her to Japan and many US bases, before retiring in Universal City, TX. Nema was skilled at creating nice homes for her family. She loved decorating, celebrating, and cooking for all the holidays and birthdays. She had a green thumb, so all her gardens were beautiful. Being a florist, she loved flowers.

Nema was adventurous and traveled to many exciting places. She always had fun, no matter where she went. Nema was always fashionable; she knew how to accessorize! She was a Red Hatter, avid reader, master caulker, and Indian snail killer. She loved going to garage sales, especially in limousines. She never met a stranger, and made good friends wherever she went.

We are all blessed to have had her in our lives. We will remember her caring spirit. Her love will dwell inside our hearts forever. We love her and will miss her for the rest of our lives.
