Helen Raynor of Wake Forest passed on to be with her Lord and Savior on November 24, 2011 at the Hospice Center in Raleigh after a brief illness. She was born on December 16, 1923 to Riddick Jones and Florence Ina Smith Jones in Gates County, NC.
Helen had a passion for ballroom dancing. She danced at the Pullen Park Dance Club in Raleigh for more than twenty years where she made many wonderful friends. She was a member of the Wake Forest Young at Heart Club and served as Secretary. She was a member of Wake Forest Baptist Church, the Friendship Sunday School Class, and the Sophie Lanneau Circle.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Spencer Raynor; brothers, Willard, Ed, Frank, Clyde, and Merl Jones; sisters, Purcell Williams and Golden Brinson and half-brothers, Vernon and Carl Jones.
She is survived by two daughters, Betty Petway and husband, Mitch of Cary and Kay Coats and husband, Buddy of Clayton; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Rosa Mae Byrum of Edenton, NC; two half-sisters, Mary Ann Parker and Kitty Green and husband, Truman of Gates County, NC, as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great-nephews.
Flowers are welcome or donations can be made to Hospice of Wake County, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607 or the charity of your choice.
The family will receive friends at Bright Funeral Home in Wake Forest on Monday evening from 6:00 – 8:00. A celebration service will be held at Wake Forest Baptist Church on Tuesday morning at 11:00 with interment to follow at Good Hope Baptist Church Cemetery in Cary.
