We were with Paul and Norma in Tahlequah. We lived across the lawn from you. gWe feel like we got to know you both. Paul was so inquisitive about everything. We remember when he was testing a shot gun. He kept testing it on himself until he got a bit sick! He was great with patients. You all felt like you had moved to the edge of the earth—no delicatessen on the block! Norma got her masters at the local college at a considerable less cost than New York. We had some good dinners and times together. You were so nice to our children. Bill went into practice in his home town. Harrisburg illinois. i taught a bit. His father died and malpractice got outrageous and we moved to Evansville Indiana. he ended up having a practice and teaching ob—which he lived. He had a second heart attack at 59. We retired to venice Fl and have lived here ever since. We are in a retirement community and have s daughter living nearby. We remember the good times we had in Tahlequah. it was a kind of ‘holding time’ in our lives. Paul became famous and so respected. We know you are proud of him! Remember the good times. We send our love,

Mrs Barash and the extended family.
I only came to know today about Paul's passing away and received the news with a lot of sadness.
I am an acquaintance of Paul whom I had met and interacted with on many occasions both on my visits to the US during ASA meetings and during Paul's visits to Europe and elsewhere. I would enjoy honest discussions with him on scientific issues and enjoy his easy manner and wit.
Paul will be remembered with a lot of affection by his many friends, colleagues and students. It is sad to lose friends and acquaintances.
I would like extend my condolences and sympathies to yourself and all the family.

Dr. Barash was a tremendous teacher, and did so in a friendly and approachable way. He was kind and likable, making me feel special when I was just another resident, and showing me how to be an anesthesiologist and how to teach others interested in the field. I will miss him.

Dear Norma and family,
I am so sorry for your loss. Paul was truly a Giant in anesthesia, but more importantly he was so generous and kind. I loved working with him on his very successful texts, CDs, and apps. He was always, always looking forward and driving others to do the same. An inspiration! Condolences to all of you.

Paul and Norma were our neighbors for about 34 years until their recent move to condo living. I will always remember his gift of a special T-shirt that read "YNHH Dept. of Anesthesia" on the front and the back read "Sleep With the Best!" We have missed his spontaneous smile & wave as he drove by with the top down in his beloved convertible. A truly terrific & gifted person.

Dear Norma and family,
I have fond memories of Dr. Barash as his resident in the mid-90s. He was a role model physician, kind, generous, and scholarly. An inspiration to me and many others. Even after I finished at Yale, he always gave me an encouraging word whenever I ran into him. I am better for having known him. I am so sorry for your loss.

Amazing memories of a great father, teacher and friend.
As a former resident under PB, today I am doing cardiac anesthesia and so much of my career I directly attribute to his teachings and the program I went through. A true giant in the field that will never be forgotten.

Dear Norma and Children and Grandchildren,
I did not know your husband/father/grandfather. But I read his book and have felt like he was my teacher. His textbook is my favorite anesthesia textbook. What a great life ! What a great legacy ! My heartfelt condolences to you. Meera Gangadharan

More than intelligent, he was wise. More than giving, he was generous. More than memorable, he will not be forgotten. I knew and admired him from afar, but I miss him along with his family and friends. Vale!

May Dr Barash's memory be for a blessing to his family and to the many others he has touched during his life. I was lucky to have met him several times as he and my mom shared a "personal trainer" in Kate, and somehow he got word of my anesthesiology training that way. I enjoyed our conversations and appreciated his advice.

I had the pleasure of working in the CTICU where Paul would regularly accompany his patients out of the OR and help stabilize them. A decent, well loved and accomplished man who always had that twinkle in his eye and smile on his face. Even with the surgical mask on, his distinctive eyes would make him instantly recognizable. The entire anesthesiology team reflected his humor, personality, demeanor and professionalism. What a wonderful legacy to leave behind. God Bless and Rest in Peace
