So sorry to hear of Carol's passing. I knew her during our college years - I was at a Amherst College, through a dear mutual friend, Martha Logan, who passed away this fall. I like to believe they are entertaining "Smith-Style" again. May here memory be eternal

What a shock! Carol was SUCH a force of nature. I think that evil, infectious, riotous giggle just left joy and mayhem in her wake and we all followed gladly. A great woman and a great person, despite her wonderful foibles. With Carol gone, the rich fabric she helped weave in our lives has a been worn. My deepest condolences go out to her family. We've all lost a great friend.

Chris and Michael, please know that Carol was received in God's loving arms and is truly the free spirit that she always was. She is surrounded by loving family in a peaceful loving place. As Marylou said, she is with Uncle Gus and Aunt Nancy along with your parents and our grandparents. I will miss her greatly. Please hold all your memories close as I will.

I am so very sorry to hear this sad news.

Carol and I were copyboys together at the NYT in the early 1980s, and became chums. I'll never forget a hilarious road trip we took in her wheezing Mercedes diesel (her car since her college days); I don't think we even made it to her dad's country place, but we had such fun along the way.

Carol was a good-hearted person, generous, smart, and so very kind, always with a big genuine smile. I will always remember her with great fondness and gratitude for her warm friendship.

My condolences to her family & friends.

So sad to lose cousin Carol. Our thoughts are with you Chris, Michael and Susan and all those who will miss her. There is a small amount of peace in knowing that she is rejoining many of those we have already lost that loved her. I am quite sure Nancy, Gus, Jean and Fred are all there receiving her with grace. Deepest sympathy from all of us in Seattle.
