LINBURN--Michael Richard,
passed away on September 2, 2018 of heart failure. He was 85. Born and raised in Manhattan, he was a lifelong New Yorker who jokingly referred to himself as "one of the crazy natives that never left". He attended The Browning School, graduated from The Hotchkiss School, and went on to study at Yale University (class of 1954), where he graduated with honors. He served as a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Army, and was stationed in Schwabisch Hall, Germany, which happened to be his family's ancestral home. After completing his military service, he entered Harvard Business School where he received an M.B.A. in 1959. Michael spent his entire professional life in the securities industry, first in investment banking at Shearson Hammill & Co, then in real estate syndication at The Balcor Company. For the last 25 years of his career, he was a Managing Director and Principal at Morse Williams & Co. in New York City. Having learned to sail at age ten at summer camp, Michael became a fervent sailor and went on to become involved, over many years, in both cruising and team racing. He once sailed in The Bermuda Race, which he always remembered as the happiest and most exciting event of his sailing life. He was a long time member of The New York Yacht Club and an active member for 32 years at Seawanhaka Corinthian Yacht Club, where he recently retired his beloved "Bluefish". Upon retirement he devoted his time as a Board Member to Heath Advocates for Older People (HAFOP) and served as Treasurer of the Church of the Incarnation, where he had been an active member of the Vestry. Throughout his life, he was an enthusiastic traveler, lover of food and wine, as well as an avid collector of Chinese art. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Hoffman Linburn, of NYC, daughter, Carol Linburn, step-daughters, Kimberly Moore and Alexandra Hoffman, sons-in-law, Jan Krepelka and Manuel Gonzalez-Rosario, a sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and David Forbes, and five grandchildren, all of San Francisco, CA. Godspeed and safe journey to you, our precious Michael; may the wind be ever at your back. You leave behind a family who will miss you terribly. A Memorial Service to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, October 20th at the Church of the Incarnation, 209 Madison Ave., at 35th St., at 4pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his memory to Health Advocates for Older People:
