I found a sterling ring with the initials "SG" on the ground while on a walk in the summer of 2019. When I looked up the hallmark, I was thrilled to discover it was made by such a pioneering woman silversmith! Like Stacey, I too am a vintage seller (clothing, not jewelry) and love to tell Leonore's story when someone remarks on my ring, which I've worn almost every day since I found it. Rest in 925 paradise, sweet Leonore

Clever Sterling Golfer Pin

I purchased this pin last spring and saved it from a group of sterling that was headed for scrap. At the time, it was completely tarnished and had debris obscuring the face and the signature on the reverse. I looked it over many times and concluded it was both different and special. Up until that day, I had never encountered the work of Leonore Doskow. I'm glad I did. After cleaning the piece, I could see the whimsical detail of the golfer's face. It wasn't until the signature was revealed that I was able to do the necessary research to learn not only about this interesting American artisan, but, also, about the unique detail of the pin. Namely, that it was designed to hold a United States penny! I am a jewelry historian and I buy and sell vintage jewelry for my living. This particular piece has further meaning to me, as well. A regular client saw the piece in my showcase and told me that she had a friend who may be interested in it. Many days later, this friend called and said she would like to see the piece, but she did not drive and was not mobile. She explained that her daughter in law was an avid golfer and would enjoy the whimsy of the pin. I told my new client, who had already revealed that she was in her 80s, that I would drive to her home and bring the pin to her. She was delighted. What would normally have been a half hour transaction ended up making me a new friend. I spent nearly 6 hours with my new customer and learned about her life, her heritage, and about her great pride in being a Cornell University graduate in the late 1940s. Jewelry is my life and my career. I am always amazed by how it can bring joy, nostalgia, and even friendship. I have enjoyed viewing the work of Leonore Doskow and will continue to seek out her unique designs.
