HAROLD REED Obituary

REED--Harold, art dealer, theatrical producer and community advocate, 75, died of natural causes on January 5, while en route to Hong Kong. Born in Newark, NJ, Reed studied at Stanford University then settled in New York in the mid 1960s. He began his career as a theatrical agent before turning to art; he founded the Mobile Art Gallery and later the Harold Reed Gallery, known for seminal shows of works by Botero, Alice Neel and many others. He was a member of the Art Dealers Association of America in the 1980s. In more recent years, Reed was an active member of the Manhattan Community Board 1 and lobbied in support of theater and the arts in Lower Manhattan, especially for the South Street Seaport area. He served on the boards of the CB1 Landmarks Committee as well as the Yaddo arts colony. He is survived by his son, Bradford Reed, a musician and composer. Plans for a memorial TBA.

Dear Family
I knew Margie so well way back in the 60's in NY I lived cIose by , and Hal and Margie were the most wonderful, glamorous couple ever!,Just wanted to pay my condolences to you Bradley who I have never met, and to you Mom- I have not kept up over these many years, and our lives have changed, but I just wanted to give you my deepest sympathy at this difficult time.
