To Kathy, Ted and Lynne
It's been many years since we met, but I'd like to extend our condolences to you. We enjoyed many good times on bridge teams with Alan, and I remember fondly partnering him on many occasions. Also hi to Ted and Lynne! Lynne, are you still playing bridge? Ted, are you still writing fiction? Best wishes, Matthew [email protected]

Kathy -
I did not have the pleasure of meeting Alan, but from the outpouring I have been reading about him, it is clear that he was a wonderful person who more than did his share of healing the world. Such people are rare and I know you were a great team. It sounds as though he had a great life, and that is the best that can be said for all of us.

I first met Ace in 2002 when he called out of the blue to "teach" me about returning phone calls promptly. Over time I learned other lessons: some directly, some by watching his example. Even after I left the firm, and after the firm was no more, he always returned my calls, always remembered my name and my family - despite his many activities and the many, many people in his life. And he cracked jokes and cheered me up about my health when his was already gone. Ace, you are amazing.

Lynne, Caleb, I wish that I was contacting you for other reasons. I am so sorry for your loss. I had only met your Dad a few times in Toronto, where he came to speak and motivate our UJA donors. His passion for Tzedakah and the Jewish people were well known and very appreciated. He will be remembered for his many achievements on Wall Street, but his greatest achievements are his children and grandchildren and the legacy of his values that leaves you. Take care and be well.

I met Ace in 1977. I had a very secure job on the "buy side" but I felt I needed greater challenge. I just had my first child but was invited to make the change to Bear Stearns. This was a major move for me. No money in the bank, no inheritance, no relationships such as "dutch uncles. First day on the job the head of my department brought me over to meet Ace. Holy cow! I was more than a bit uncomfortable. Staring out the window on the 50th floor, Ace pointed to the projects on Avenue D and asked if that's where I came from. I said yes. He then said "you will never make it here." At that instant I thought I was chopped liver. He smiled. shook my hand and said, "Cary, you will do very well here. We like people with PSD degrees: Poor, Smart and Deep Desire to become rich." Ace was a gentleman who always gave you a fair hearing. He was always there for me. I didn't have many idols in my life, except for my Dad, my father-in-law and Ace. Rest in peace my friend.
