James Montecalvo Obituary

James "Uncle Jimmy" Montecalvo, 85, of Washington, died Tuesday, December 29, 2015, in Townview Health and Rehabilitation Center, Canonsburg. He was the last of his immediate family.
He was born December 13, 1930, in Washington, a son of the late Vincent J. Montecalvo and Frederica Gizzo Montecalvo.
Mr. Montecalvo was a graduate of Washington High School, where he played football and loved all sports. He continued to support Washington High School Prexies teams throughout his life.
On July 13, 1957, in First Christian Church, he married Dorothy Barnhart, who survives. They were married for 58 years.
He was employed at McGraw-Edison as a warehouse manager for 33 years and had previously worked at several other local companies including William G. Neal Funeral Home in the 1960s.
Mr. Montecalvo's love of local sports lead him to become an assistant coach for a period of time with Clark School Midget Football program, during which time they celebrated two championships.
A great joy of his life was spending time with and being involved in the life of his great-nephew and namesake, James Montecalvo. He loved spending time with his entire family and friends and will be missed by many.
Also surviving are many nieces and nephews including, Guy (Marie) Montecalvo, who always helped care for him, John Motil, Dennis Marry, Mark Marry, Cheri Sundberg, Linda Carrozza and Rose Bigley; great-nieces Suzanne (Joel) Antonucci and Laura Montecalvo; and cousin Rita Brock, who was a dedicated caregiver five days weekly.
Deceased are a brother, Guy Montecalvo and wife Jeannine; four sisters, Elizabeth Hartley, Amelia Marry, Rose Mazzie, Mary Lou Motil; nephews Bob Mazzie, Jerome Marry, Vincent Marry, Dick Hartley, Jimmy Hartley, Artie Hartley and Ricky Hartley; niece Darla Novagratic; and great-nephew James Montecalvo.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Ave, Washington, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, January 5, with the Rev. Tom Bellhy officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery.
Because of the exceptional care provided to Mr. Montecalvo, his family is requesting memorial donations be made to Amedysis Hospice Care, 275 Meadowlands Boulevard, Washington, PA 15301, or charity of your choice.

Jim and I were friends from the middle 40's when his family moved to terrace ave. although I left Washington in early 1950, we remained friends and I will surely miss our occasional time together when visiting Washington.

I have read all the entries in the guest book here and the guest book from the William Neal Funeral Home. I am amazed that all of the entries I have read, captured the very essence of this wonderful, kind and caring man. He always had a smile and a hug for everyone, and boy did he know EVERYONE!!! He was my partner in crime when it came to eating hot peppers, and every time I eat one from now on I will think of him! He lit up the room with his smile and there was always just a hint of orneriness in that smile....my best memories are "family time" at my mother-in-laws with her brothers and all her sisters, telling stories and make us all laugh till our stomachs hurt. Heaven must be rocking! Sleep with the angels Uncle~

I remember Jim when I coached his Great Nephew Jimmy in the Washington Bronco league. He was always there to encourage all the boys. The love and caring he always displayed to all the teammates, coaches, and parents will always be remembered..

I remember Jim Montecalvo from my youth. He would make it a point to talk with the Francis family when visiting his nephews: Jerry, Dennis, Vincent and Mark Marry. He paid so much attention to my brothers and me [and to ALL the YOUTH of Washington Pa] that we nicknamed him Uncle Jimmy. As the years rolled on, I saw Uncle Jimmy infrequently - but when I did, we picked up as though it were just yesterday.
Uncle Jimmy" will forever be remembered for his love of people, his interest in seeing young people achieve, and his way of making everyone feel so very special.

RIP, Uncle Jimmy, and to his family my heartfelt condolences.
"You will make the stars in the heavens shine a little brighter."
