Paul Wingard Obituary

Dr. Paul Sidney Wingard

Dr. Paul Sidney Wingard, age 84, of Brighton, Tenn., formerly of Stow, Ohio, went home to live with his Lord and Savior on June 11, 2014.

Paul was born in Akron, Ohio in 1930. When he was 11-years old, he moved to Stow, Ohio with his parents, Dr. Daniel Webster Wingard (Doc) and Mary Elizabeth Wingard (Betty), and his five younger siblings. After graduating from Western Reserve Academy in Hudson, Ohio in 1948, he earned a B.S and M.S. in geology from Miami University of Ohio, and his Ph.D. in geology from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign, Illinois. He worked for the US Geological Survey before he taught geology at Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas and the University of Akron, the latter where he was Associate Dean of the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences and Professor of Geology. Paul served several terms of elected office for the Stow-Munroe Falls School Board, Stow City Council, and Ohio State House of Representatives.

Paul had a passion for antiques, thrift stores, flea markets, and bargains. He loved rummaging through boxes of secondhand goods. In retirement, he lived his dream as an auctioneer for estate sales, storage units, and government agencies.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Dale. He is survived by his wife of 3 1/2 years, Sandra; and his children, Skye (Rock) Leonard, Elizabeth (Stephen) Wascak, Kevin (Lori) Wingard, Kimberley (Ian) Wrisley and Eric Wingard; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; his brother and best friend, Dr. Daniel Wingard; and sisters, Nancy (Tobias) Winters, Mary Dashnaw and Sally (Charles) Lambach; as well as his step-children, nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

A memorial service will be held on June 19 at 7 p.m. at Riverwood Chapel, 1407 Fairchild Ave., Kent, Ohio. A visitation reception will be 5:30 to 7 p.m. prior to the service. Burial at Magnolia Gardens Cemetery, Covington, Tenn.
