Patricia Krill Obituary

Our loving Spouse, Mother and Oma died on 28 March 2012. Pat was born on 22 January 1936, the daughter of Karl F. and Augusta R. (Rettig) Powers of Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania. She became a registered nurse at St. Joseph Hospital in Reading, before taking a position in the infant surgical section at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. During this part of her life she met and married Dr. Carl E. Krill, Jr., a young medical school graduate from the University of Pennsylvania. They wed on 12 September 1959.

From Philadelphia, postgraduate training took the couple to Cincinnati, where their first child, a son, was born. Six years later they welcomed a daughter into their lives. The family resided in Bethesda, Maryland, for two years during the Vietnam era, before moving to Akron, where the couple began a long association with Children's Hospital Medical Center.

In Akron, Pat devoted her energy to volunteer activities at the hospital, at St. Sebastian Catholic Church and at her children's schools, Walsh Jesuit and Our Lady of the Elms high schools. She was a member of the Women's Board of Catholic Social Services of Summit County for many years and in 2006 was honored as its Woman of the Year. Pat was also a member of Akron Woman's City Club, where she particularly enjoyed being associated with their "Attic Artists."

Pat leaves her husband; her son, Prof. Carl E. Krill III of Ulm, Germany; her daughter, Jennifer (Michael) Gillis, and grandson, Jackson Gillis, all of Pittsburgh; brothers, Karl F. (Jane) Powers, Jr., of Allentown and Gerald T. (Margaret) Powers of Indianapolis; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at Hummel Funeral Home, 500 E. Exchange St., Akron, on Sunday, 1 April, from 1 to 4 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Sebastian Church on Monday, 2 April, at 11 a.m. Private interment at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman will follow at a later date. The family suggests memorials to the McDowell Cancer Center at AGMC, to Hospice of Visiting Nurse Service or to a children's charity of the donor's choice. Dear Carl, Chuck, and Jenny,
I am so sorry to hear about
your loss. 'Aunt Pat' will always be special to me. When I first met her, she welcomed me with open arms- as I learned she was that way with everyone. She would always find something to laugh about. She used to say we were 'out-laws', not 'in-laws'! She would pull out Jenny's old dance costumes so Kelli and Katie could play dress-up. Actually, I think she had as much fun as they did! How wonderful that you could call that special lady your wife, mom, and best friend. She blessed us all. I live you.

Dr Krill, Jennifer, and family! I am very sorry for your loss. Your wife and mother was like an angel to me as an elementary school student! She would have little "lunch parties" with our group at The Elms, while volunteering for lunch duty! If she made me feel that special 30 years ago, I can just imagine how she touched your hearts as wife and mother! heaven received another angel!!! My condolences, Teresa Josof Haas

Dear Dr. Krill,

Our thoughts go out to you in the loss of your wife, Patricia. You relieved us from our suffering, 32 years ago when your knowledge and special care saved our Mikey. He had a kidney removed when he was just four months old. I wish we could do something to ease the pain from the loss of such a beautiful person.

Sincerely,

Mike, Carol McDonnell and Family
