I'm happy to see the photo of my friend Joan today. I think of her often and miss our visits and conversations in person and on the phone. She was such a kind and loving woman and was my personal and church friend. Some of my most meaningful times with Joan were after her car accident: a visit to the hospital where I also visited with Todd Burnside. His Mom and Dad lived in our neighborhood on Buchanan Drive when he was a playmate with our children, Jef and Kim. I took a barbershop quartet of mine to sing where she stayed for a while. I had one of her caregivers occasionally bring her to our circle meetings at Trinity. I invited her to church after she had not gone for a very long time (she had her caregiver bring her and she met me there where she also went up for communion). She asked me if she could come to my home in Sanford Lake and painted our home. What a compliment to our long friendship. I ache for her today but know I will see her again!

Joan was a special loving and very longtime friend. Before I moved from Sanford Lake to Hastings 5 yrs. ago, she asked if she could come out and do a painting of my house. She had not painted since her accident, nor since Scott had died. I was so honored that she shared that time with me and trusted me to love and encourage her. I know God has blessed her and she is with him now. I send love to all of her children and grandchildren. She had a darling and very dry sense of humor which was especially entertaining when she was raising her children!

Joan was one of a special kind and I so enjoyed being her pastor for 20 years. She and my mother were great friends. RIP, Joan. Kirk Havel

Dear Lynn, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at the loss of your mom. You described her so clearly, I felt like I was fortunate enough to know her myself! I see that she lives on in you and in the hearts of those she loved! Wishing you peace, Anne
