Family-Placed Obituary

GUY E. SAUNDERS, Jr. Guy E. Saunders, Jr., 85, of Punta Gorda, FL passed away Wednesday, December 8, 2010 at his home after a brief illness. He was born January 18, 1925 to Guy and Ona Saunders. Guy was a Michigan native and moved to Lake Worth, FL in 1946 after proudly serving his country in World War II. Guy was a member of the 101st Airborne served in Europe and was awarded the Purple Heart. After completing his military service Guy worked as a general contractor in Lake Worth and Palm Beach for more than forty years. In 1985 Guy moved to Punta Gorda where he raised cattle and citrus for the next fifteen years until his retirement. Guy was a long time member of Punta Gorda Country Club and also enjoyed fishing with his friends. He will be greatly missed by his sons, Guy E. Saunders and his wife, Nancy; Steven M. Saunders both of Lantana, FL; sister, Hazel Roos; brother, Bob Saunders; grandson, Guy Evan Saunders and his wife, Kim; great-granddaughters, Paige Saunders all of Lantana and former wife, Debbie Saunders. Per Guy's request there will be no formal services. He wanted his friends and loved ones to take a moment to celebrate his life and enjoy a fond memory. In lieu of flowers the family is encouraging memorial donations to TideWell Hospice Inc., 5955 Rand Boulevard, Sarasota, FL 34238.
