Gloria Morrison Obituary

Gloria Ann Morrison
December 26, 1942 – July 28, 2015

Graveside services were held in Santa Cruz on July 30th for Gloria Morrison who passed away in Santa Cruz with her loving family at her bedside, following a lengthy illness. Born in Brooklyn, New York, she was 72 years old.

Gloria attended Dalton high school in New York City and graduated from St. Luke's School of Nursing in New York. Her career as a Registered Nurse spanned over 40 years. A longtime resident of Pasadena, California, she spent 35 of those years in service to others at Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena, where Gloria leaves many lifelong friends and colleagues whose friendships she treasured. She loved to travel, and was a talented artist, creating beautiful quilts for family, friends, and organizational causes.

Gloria will be remembered as a wonderful mother, caregiver, and advocate for animals. Her passion for dogs led her to support various animal care organizations and the adoption of pets who needed a loving home. She was a member of Temple Beth El Jewish Community in Aptos, and in her short time as a Santa Cruz resident, made many friends in both her synagogue and neighborhood.

Gloria is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Tamy Leventhal of Stillwater, Minnesota; her daughter and son-in-law, Jaime and Carleton Curtis of Los Angeles, and their daughter Scarlet Curtis; her daughter Jennifer Morrison and partner Pam Conelly of Santa Cruz. Gloria also leaves her three beloved canine companions: "Dixie", "Petey", and "Zoey."

She was laid to rest at Home of Peace Jewish Cemetery in Santa Cruz with Rabbi Paula Marcus officiating. Any kind acts of charity can be made in her memory to Hospice of Santa Cruz County.

To the Morrison family, I would like to extend my deepest sympathy for the loss of your mother Gloria. I worked with your mother Gloria for many years in Same Day Surgery. I respected her love and devotion to Huntington and to the nursing profession. She was always so full of life and energy. We will miss her and the contribution she brought to us. We were so sorry to hear she became so ill so soon after she retired. Many blessings to all of you!

Dear Bruce, Jaimie, and Jenny. When I was told The Star News said Gloria Morrison had died, my first thought was, what are the odds there are two Gloria Morrison's in Pasadena. Then I read the obituary I just couldn't believe it. Your mother and I worked many years together. She took excellent care of her patients. We had some good times. Had parties at her place. She would cook dinner and I would bring the wine. We went to quilt shows together. What I admired most about your Mother was her vitality and energy for life. She was always on the go or doing something creative. You have my deepest sympathy and I will keep her in my prayers.

I worked with Gloria in Same Day Surgery at Huntington Hospital. She made me feel so welcome when I first came here. She taught me and showed me the ropes! She was a smart Nurse and quite a Dynamo with tons of energy! Her patients came first always! I am so happy she was able to retire and enjoy her family! I know she will be missed. We missed her when she left Huntington and everyone here was so sad to hear this news. We are thinking of you and send condolences.
