Howard Lowe Obituary

HOWARD MARTIN LOWE
August 9, 1949-October 27, 2017
Howard Martin Lowe was born in Riverside Community Hospital on August 9, 1949, the second child of Bill and Marguerite Lowe. He attended Jefferson Elementary and St. Thomas Catholic Schools. He was a member of the first graduating class of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic School in 1963.
After graduation from Notre Dame High School in 1967, he attended the University of California at Riverside where he first majored in Math. After a year's sabbatical working for Santa Fe Railroad as an electrician's apprentice, he returned to UCR where he met the love of his life, the lovely Kathleen Pike.
He finished his B.A. in Theatre Arts, giving a memorable performance as Toby Belch in Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night ." He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Theater in the summer of 1972. More importantly, he and Kathleen were married in March of that year. They raised three children, Sarah, Martin and William.
Howard went on to manage the theatre at Santa Ana College until 1978 when he went to work for Canteen Corporation, serving as manager of the Marina at Lake Perris, CA. Later, he served in the same capacity at Lakes San Antonio and New Melones, CA.
In later years, he became an educator, serving as a teacher in the school districts of Stockton, Calaveras, and Sacramento Counties. He specialized in reaching students who came from "difficult" living situations and "unique" backgrounds. "Messy" situations did not make him uncomfortable. Thus, he was able to share his unique gifts with unique students. He will be missed.
Howard passed away peacefully at home on the morning of October 27, 2017, in Vallecito, Calaveras County, CA. Memorial Mass will be celebrated for him on Saturday morning, December 2, 2017 at 10:30am at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 3774 Jackson Street, Riverside, CA. Friends are invited to attend a luncheon afterwards in the Kathryn Drexel Center adjacent to the church.

I did not realize that Howard had died. He was one of my roomates at UCR. He did the technical and lighting for a production of the Fantastiks in Lake Arrowhead and I was the piano player and music director. He became a minister in the Universal Life Church and as such he legally married me and my first wife. I visited him and Cathy in the mid 1980s when I was a post-doc and studying for my licensing exam and I hired his daughter to do flashcards for me to memorize some of the items for the licensing exam. He was a really really good person. I am very sad to hear about his loss.

Dear Lowe family, I am sorry to read about your loss. I did not know Mr. Lowe, but I am hoping to bring you a measure of comfort by means of this message. May you take refuge in the God who heals the brokenhearted and saves those crushed in spirit. -Isaiah 57:15
