Charles Ebert Obituary

Charles John Ebert, Jr., age 85, born in Thomaston, AL and a resident of Foley, AL, passed away Friday, December 10, 2010. He attended First Presbyterian Church of Foley.
Mr. Ebert graduated from Foley High School in 1943. He attended Alabama Polytechnic Institute (Auburn University), graduating in 1949 with a degree in Business Administration. He served in the Merchant Marines during WWII and in the US Army during the Korean War. In 1949, Mr. Ebert returned to Foley to join the family business, Ebert Insurance Agency, which he was semi-retired from, as son Charles Ebert, III now runs the business. Mr. Ebert was very involved in civic affairs during his lifetime. He was a founder of the Baldwin Heritage Museum and Foley Railroad Museum; a member of the Foley Optimist Club, the Foley City Council from 1984 - 2004, and the Foley Volunteer Fire Department from 1962 - 1993, serving as Chief in 1976; he served on the Board of Directors of Riviera Utilities from 1961 - 2009; and was a supporter of the archaeology field program of the University of Alabama Museum of Natural History. Mr. Ebert also served as President of the Foley Chamber of Commerce and was Trustee-Director of Civil Defense for local schools. In 1997, he was named a Paul Harris Fellow by the Foley Rotary Club and Free Enterprise Person of the Year in 1983. He was also a Boy Scout Committee Member and served as Head of American Red Cross Fund Drives.
Mr. Ebert was preceded in death by his mother, Evelyn Thomas Ebert; father, Charles John Ebert, Sr.; and daughter, Louise Bouzan.
Survivors include his wife, Wyline Ebert, Foley, AL; daughter, Susan Endry, Gulf Breeze, FL; daughter, Wyline Bauman, Laguna Niquel, CA; son, Tom Provost, Pensacola Beach, FL; daughter, Amy Ebert Burleson, Atlanta, GA; son, Charles J. Ebert, III, Foley, AL; 13 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, December 13, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. at First Presbyterian Church of Foley. The family received friends from 12:00 P.M. until time of service. Interment will follow service at Pine Rest Memorial Park, Foley, AL.

Laurel Avenue, Foley, AL 36535; Louise Bouzan Scholarship Fund - South Baldwin Education Foundation, 104 North McKenzie, Foley, AL 36535; First Presbyterian Church of Foley, 195 East Berry Avenue, Foley, AL 36535-2801; or the charity of your choice in the name of Charles John Ebert, Jr.
