I was saddened to hear of Mr. Segaloff's passing. I worked with An Achievable Dream as a teacher during its first ten years in the after-school homework program, on weekends, and during the summer sessions. My sons, Ryan and Hayden, worked with Chris during the summers. Mr. Segaloff was an amazing man, and we extend our condolences to Mrs. Segaloff, Chris, and the rest of the Segaloff family.

Dear Mrs. Segaloff and Family,
My name is Father Glen Willis. I am sorry to say and I regret that I did not know your husband and father. I read his obituary in the Washington Post on Wednesday, August 21st.
Rarely have I seen the story of a man who lived his life to fullest and did it unselfishly for others.
I copied the article and plan to use it in my funeral sermons as an example of a life well lived. My deepest condolences on your loss. and as the prayer says "At the rising of the sun and at its going down, we will remember him." Shalom

My wife, Toni, worked for Walter in the late 196-s and 1970s for LA VOGUE and Virginia Specialty Stores till we moved from Newport News to Texas. Both of us alway had a great deal respect for him. He was a good man, good businessman and a great humanitarian. He made the world a better place for those lives he touched. He will be missed and not forgotten.
He and his family will always be in our prayers. 817*573*9714

Dear Ann & Family,
I am profoundly saddened at the news of Walter's passing. He was the best mentor I have ever had and I have never forgotten the many important lessons he taught me in my 6 years at La Vogue. I am very deeply saddened that I never had the opportunity to properly thank him for the tremendous opportunities he gave me and for the positive impact he had on my life. My life might have been very different if I had not crossed paths with Walter. As the years have passed, I have come to understand just how lucky I was to have known such an amazing man.

Mr. Segaloff will be deeply missed. Through his kindness, care and concern for all children to succeed in education and his drive and initiative to make it possible, he has left behind a legacy that will benefit generations to come. A collaborative effort that included not only students but their parents and teachers as well. My life is better because of his efforts and I am a better individual because of it. My sympathy goes out to his family at this time. He will be missed but never forgotten. What a blessing to have had his light shine so brightly for us all to benefit and it will go on and on.

Dear Peter & Deb, I read of your father's passing in today's Washington Post. When Cheryl and I lived next door to you in Norfolk, I had no idea your Dad was such a prominent and distinguished man. How proud you must be of the life he led and of the legacy of love he leaves to so many. It is exactly how I feel about Cheryl and the life she led. My deepest sympathy to you and your family during this difficult time.

Walter was a great man who gave back to the community over and over again in many different ways. He will be missed by many but the foundation that he has laid for the many projects will live for ever. I think that Walter is in heaven with Jo Ann looking down at all of us in the days to come.

It is because of Mr. Segaloff's belief in me and the children of the Southeast community that I have become the individual that I am today. He has done more than enough by giving me the chance to receive privileged and exceptional education through AADA. Through every life he has touched, whether student, administrator, or associate, some of him will carry on through us and those we all encounter. I am grateful to have known him, but not as grateful as you to have spent every minute with him. Thank you for allowing him to share himself with us. Your family is in my prayers.

Over the years I have been consistently impressed by the work of this man, specially regarding Achievable Dream. In my opinion, he has been perhaps the most remarkable and positive influence on the Peninsula in its history. To say he will be missed is an understatement.

Mr. Segaloff reaffirmed my unwavering belief that all children can achieve the American Dream. After 6 years of teaching 5th grade at An Achievable Dream, I had the opportunity to become an administrator. When Mr. Segaloff asked if the move was imminent, he asked, "What's wrong with you? Are you crazy? You belong in the classroom. Needless to say, Mr. Segaloff was right! I am saddened by his sudden departure and will try to honor his legacy whenever I am working with children! I retired but launched an academic tutoring program, Passionate Educator, as my way to shape dreams. Shalom! My condolences to the family! God bless you all!

Mr. Segaloff started me in my career in business back in the early '70s with his Virginia Specialty Stores. I will be forever grateful for his insight and discernment to see what I could become and his overall leadership and influence in my life. I am so glad I was able to acknowledge this to him just this summer at the Achievable Dream walk in Williamsburg. I would certainly not be where I am today without his influence on my life!

Words cannot adequately express my sadness about the lost of such an advocate for economically disadvantaged children! I had the privilege of serving under Mr. Segaloff as a 5th grade teacher for more than 6 years and those years, guided by his vision and commitment, helped to shape my educational principles. He was absolutely correct in believing that with an even playing field, disadvantaged children could dream and achieve! I will miss him, our children and community will miss him. However, the legacy that he leaves us cannot be replicated! What a giant!

I hope that Mr. Segaloff knew what he meant to An Achievable Dream and what an impact he and the program had on children like me. The program help develop the intelligence, social, and even developmental skills that children growing up in improvised neighborhoods lack. We could have been products of our environment. Instead, he helped with so many other teachers, administrators and donators, to foster creativity and create well rounded individuals, who believed and learned that there was more to life. We will never forget where we came from, but through him, we all seek to teach one change one. An Achievable Dream, brought a sense of family and individualism to each and every Dreamer. I hope that we ALL be everything that he set forth. We may never be a Walter Segaloff, but maybe we can ALL scratch the surface. Each and every time I have met him he was such a humble man, but with an extraordinary ability, to make you believe in yourself, your family, even your community, and it all started for me with An Achievable Dream. As the Achievable Dream song go's, may we all continue to march onto our goals and make him smile from up above. From the third starting class (The Red Group) of An Achieveable Dream!

An Achievable Dream molded me with values that I need to succeed in life. My greatest memories are my time spent there in the burgundy group. I will also never forget that when I was in third grade I had a dream to go to space camp but my parents could not afford to send me and Mr. Segaloff contributed so I could go and I went that year. May God Bless you and your family during this time, Shalom.

Mr. Segaloff's contributions to the community made it possible for my children to attend An Achievable Dream Academy. Suffice it to say that they are doing terrific in this environment and could not put into words just how much it has meant to me and my family that my children are getting a quality education. Thank you Mr. Segaloff for all that you have done for the community and you will never be forgotten.

I was privileged to work at the Warwick Group office for a short time during the late 1990's. He made an indelible impression: energy, enthusiasm, dedication, conviction, always moving forward. Walter, you were a light in this world without even trying and that made you shine even brighter. Thank you, Walter.

I had the pleasure of working with him on the Achieveable Dream School building from W. M. Jordan Co. There I learned just how passionate he was about these kids and this project. He made a point to later write a letter of appreciation to me after the job was done. I treasure that letter. He recently spoke at the City Counsel Meeting in Newport News on August 13th. He talked a lot about the sucess of his Achievable Dream kids! Little did we all know that would be the last time some of us would see him. Just a remarkable man who will be terribly missed by so many people. My thoughts and prayers go to his family, and his wealth of friends he made all over the world. We all owe it to him in giving forward! Walter you have a lot of work to do on the other side! You will no doubt make it a much better place!! Rest in Peace your work is done on this earthy planet!
