Gary R. Van Marter

Gary Robert Van Marter, 70, Town of Clayton, died peacefully on Sunday, March 30, 2014 with his loving family by his side. Gary and his twin brother Larry were born January 20, 1944, in Kingsford, MI, sons of Melvin and Myrtle (Pirlot) Van Marter. He graduated from Neenah High School and later received his Associate Degree in Computer Programming. Gary was a Vietnam Veteran serving in the U.S. Army. He married Janet (Krause, Selsmeyer) on May 19, 2001. Gary enjoyed camping with his buddy Cork and his pal Tom. He also enjoyed playing cards with the in-laws, the Green Bay Packers, and talking politics.

Gary will be sadly missed by his wife, Janet; twin brother, Larry (Mary) Van Marter; a sister, Sharon Schmidt; two sons: Randy (Jenny) Van Marter and Jeff (Julie) Van Marter; a daughter, Jen (Brian) Hanus; a stepson, Jared Selsmeyer; a stepdaughter, Leah (Jayme) Van Zile; 12 grandchildren and two great grandchildren; three sisters-in-law: Kathleen (Lawrence) Hermes, Barbara (Carl) Van Den Elzen, and Linda (Jack) Le Roy; two brothers-in-law: Robert (Marilyn) Krause and Ronald (Angela) Krause; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Wayne Van Marter; and a brother-in-law, Dennis Schmidt.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 4, 2014, at Immanuel Lutheran Church Zittau, 9077 North Road, Fremont, with Rev. Mark Kinney officiating. Interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Neenah. Visitation will be at the Kessler Funeral Home, 304 S. Commercial Street, Neenah, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, and again at the church from 10:00 a.m. Friday until the time of the service. Full military honors will be presented at the cemetery by members of the Neenah Menasha Veterans Honor Guard and the U.S. Army.

Garys death makes me very sad. We met under not ideal circumstances but he has made a great impressions on my life. He was a strong, charming man. He will be missed but always remembered.
