Speakman, F. Beatrice (Betty)

Johnson City: Betty Speakman, 96, was reunited with the love of her life and dance partner Art on October 20, 2014. She is survived by her sister Beverly Austin; sons Dale and Gail Speakman, Dan and Colleen Speakman, and Barry and Diana Speakman; daughters Sally Speakman-Fuchs and Fred Fuchs, Helen and Scott Edmunds, and Nancy and Jim Shaw; grandchildren Colin and Gretchen Speakman, Brian and Tara Edmunds, Heather Edmunds, Steven Edmunds, Dan Solomon, Bailey Shaw, and Emily Fuchs; great grandchildren O'Neil and Henry Speakman and Tino Edmunds; and many dear nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Art in 1997, after 52 years of marriage. She was also predeceased by her parents; sisters Aurelia Tiffany and Lois Hyde; brothers John and Frank Keeler. Betty had a passion for dancing with Art which started at the Johnson City pavilion where they met. She enjoyed reading and poetry as well as traveling with her family to the beaches of Florida every year and a memorable trip to Paris and Normandy Beach that she and Art took together. Betty was a kind and compassionate person who loved her family and friends deeply. She will be greatly missed. Betty was a lifelong member of Sarah Jane Johnson Memorial United Methodist Church. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday at 10:00AM at the Barber Memorial Home, Inc., 428 Main St, Johnson City. Burial will be in Vestal Hills Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Thursday October 23, from 4:00-7:00PM at the Barber Memorial Home, Inc. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Betty's name to Meals on Wheels of Western Broome, 705 W. Main St, Endicott, NY 13760 or a charity of your choice. The family would like to thank the volunteers of Meals on Wheels who brightened Betty's days for many years and to the staff at Elizabeth Church Manor who watched over her with kindness and caring.
