Bea TURNER

1928 - 2017

TURNER. Bea Beatrice Lucile Freathy Turner, born, Mendocino, March 7, 1928, passed away June 17, 2017 in Santa Rosa. Bea was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Stanley Turner Jr, and by her parents Clarence and Lucile Freathy. Her early years were spent in the Mendocino logging camps with her parents, eventually settling in Mendocino where she graduated from Mendocino High School in 1945. Bea worked for the local lumber company and traveled around the US before marrying and moving to Denver in 1952. The family returned to Santa Rosa in the early 1960s, remaining at the same residence the rest of their lives. Bea was heavily involved in the Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts and PTA Programs. Very patriotic, Bea joined the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 21 when Stanley joined the American Legion. During her 30+ years as a member, she held many offices and chairmanships with additional positions in associated organizations (8/40, La Femmes, Past Presidents Parley, Sweethearts). Along with voluminous awards of appreciation for her work and commitment, Bea was granted an Honorary Life Membership in the American Legion Auxiliary. She was particularly committed to the success of Girls State and the SRJC Nursing Program Scholarships. Those who knew and worked with her recall her as dedicated to whatever she became involved in. This dedication resulted in many people benefiting from her hard work and most would agree, she lived her life on her terms. Bea is survived by her children: Melissa Turner, Stanley III and Marilee Turner, and Alan and Ellen Turner. Grandchildren: Heather and Brian Hunter, Kevin and Rachel Turner, Jason and Nicki Turner, Benjamin Turner and Sarah Turner. Great-grandchildren: Moya, Ivan, Alyssa, and Hailey. The family encourages friends/well-wishers to attend the memorial service at 1 p.m. on July 15, 2017 at Santa Rosa Bible Church, 4575 Badger Rd, Santa Rosa. Charitable donations may be made to the Shriners Children's Hospital or the SRJC Nursing program.
