Miriam Redstone Obituary

Miriam Ann Redstone
Miriam Ann Redstone died on February 4, 2019 after an almost three-year battle with metastatic colon cancer. She was 74.
Miriam was a first generation American. She was the daughter of Nellie and Sol Redstone, immigrants from Russia and Poland, respectively.
Miriam was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. She went to Mumford High School, got her college degree at the University of Michigan and received a Masters Degree in Social Work at Columbia University in New York City.
Miriam moved to San Francisco in 1969. It was there in 1970 that she met her husband to be, David Dillman. They were blessed to have a loving relationship for 50 years until the time of her death.
It was also in 1970 that Miriam chose to explore the therapeutic discipline of primal therapy. She became a primal therapist herself. Both personally and professionally, she strongly believed in the power of feeling old, early childhood traumas as a way of releasing hurt that is stored in our bodies.
In 1977, Miriam moved to the small town of Occidental in western Sonoma County. She helped build her own passive solar home, homesteaded her property and began a lifelong commitment to community betterment.
She worked out of her own office for decades as a licensed psychotherapist, helping meet the needs of innumerable people. She also created a small business called Wool Works where she sold hats and socks from wool she loved, cleaned, carded, dyed, spun and knitted.
In 1987 her daughter Sasha Rose was born, giving Miriam one of the great joys of her life. In the mid-1990s, Miriam helped found Country Charter School in Occidental, one of the first charter schools established in California.
More than anything, Miriam was widely loved by most everyone who knew her. The light in her eyes, her love for each person, her ability to listen and understand, her lack of judgment, her wisdom, her spirit, her groundedness, her humor, her presence, her perspectives - all these qualities helped make Miriam the so very heartfelt person she was.
Miriam is survived by her husband David Dillman, her daughter
Sasha Rose Dillman, her son-in-law Nick Pilon, her grandson Logan Dillman-Pilon, her brother Paul Redstone and extended family and friends.
Current plans are for a Memorial to be held in Miriam's honor in late spring or early summer. Contact Sasha Rose at [email protected] for further information on the Memorial.

I loved Miriam and knew her as a core dedicated Occidental community stalwart. I also knew her through an altternative medicine doctor we both saw for a long time, Norman Easley. Her daughter and my son went to art quest together so we always had a lot to say to each other. It was her penetrating eyes, the laughs we had, and her lively spirit that i will deeply miss. You miss kindred spirits. I pray often for David and her daughter. Being in a long relationship it's such a loss. Sening my love to both of you. Kaye Martin
