EUGENE "GENE" CHAPMAN

Eugene "Gene" Chapman passed away peacefully on Monday, February 16th, at the age of 76.

Gene was the fourth child born to Edward Chapman (deceased) and Norma Green (deceased) in Allegany, Pennsylvania, on September 18, 1949. He later made his home in Detroit, Michigan, where he attended the Detroit Public Schools and completed his education at Mumford High School.

Gene built a strong work ethic throughout his life. He retired from work at the airport and also, dedicated many years to construction. He took pride in working with his hands and building things that would last- including his relationship with his devoted partner, Arthur.

Gene and Arthur met in 1985 and remained inseparable after moving in together a year later. On September 18, 2015, "Boopty Boop"- Gene and "Put Put"- Arthur became one union. Arthur took immense pride in caring for him, and it was noticed and appreciated by everyone, especially Gene.

Outside of his career, Gene had a true gift for cooking, gardening, decorating, and landscaping. Any garden he worked on became the envy of the neighborhood. He found joy in nurturing the earth and sharing meals with those he loved. His dedication, quiet strength, and pride in his work will be remembered by all who knew him.

He leaves to cherish his memory: His absolute world, Arthur Tyrone Penister; Siblings: Sylvester Chapman, Barbara Chapman (deceased), Linda Blevins, John Chapman, Charles "Charlie" Chapman (deceased), Cynthia "Missy" Smith, Mildred "Millie" Smith, Beverly Foster, Clifford "Big Daddy" Hollins (Wendy), Clifton "Skinny" Hollins, Darryl Pollard (deceased), Christian "Chrissy" Shaw, Deborah Calloway, Dennis Chapman (Serena), Sharon Cook (deceased James "Pete") In Laws: Kathryn Penister, Doris Penister-Jordan (Kenneth), Debra Penister-Gray (Terence), Michael Beavers (Cordy), Sandra Beaver, Vincent (deceased) (Ann) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.

While Gene is gone from our sight, he will FOREVER be in our hearts.
