Martin Felder Obituary

Felder, Martin E.
Martin E. Felder, M.D. passed away on December 31, 2017 in Carlsbad, California at the age of 87. Dr. Felder was born and raised in Fall River, Massachusetts. He graduated from Brown University in 1952, and from Tufts University medical school in 1956. Dr. Felder entered an internship and residency program at Ohio State University, and during that time also joined the U.S. Public Health Service, completing his service as a lieutenant-commander. Dr. Felder started his private practice in Providence, Rhode Island in 1963, and became instrumental in the development of Brown University's medical school. When he retired from the medical school in 2002, the university honored him as an Emeritus Professor for his dedication to teaching. He served as chief of general surgery at the Miriam Hospital, and was a member of numerous medical societies, including the New England Surgical Society. Dr. Felder was an avid golfer, a Silver Life Master in duplicate bridge, and collected and was a connoisseur of fine wines. He is survived by his wife, Velma Felder of Carlsbad, California, his sister Avis Burger of Scottsdale, Arizona, his son Mark Felder of Laveen, Arizona, his son Lawrence Felder of Scottsdale, Arizona, and four grandchildren, Charles Felder, Emily Felder, George Felder, and Madaleine Felder. As was his wish, any donations in Dr. Felder's memory may be made to the public library of one's choice.

My deepest sympathy to the Felder family and friends. I worked with Dr.Felder at The Miriam Hospital for several years before his retirement. He was always a gentleman and brought so much to the OR educating one and all with his skills and knowledge. He told some great stories and we all listened intently when he spoke. He was a master at his craft and shared his skills with so many great doctors, residents, PA's and nurses and all types of students

I had the pleasure of working for Dr Frlder when his office was at Randall Square. I will always remember him for his patience and kindness to his staff as well as his patience. He was someone of a few words, vast knowledge and a great sense of humor.
May the family find comfort in the warm and wonderful memories of a life well lived.

I was the first to receive a colitis-related operation performed by Dr. Felder in 1976. At the time, this surgery was ground breaking. I am now 62 and in perfectly fine health because of his skills as a surgeon. Dr. Felder is a giant among men.
