Robert K. Bufkin, Sr., 90, passed away Saturday, April 1, 2017 at Falling Spring Nursing and Rehabilitation. He was born Tuesday, March 1, 1927 in Boonville, IN, the son of the late Benjamin F. and Alma E. (Walker) Bufkin.
Robert was formerly employed by as a military police officer at the Army War College in Carlisle for many years. He was then transferred to Letterkenny Army Depot where he worked until his retirement in 1983 as a civilian. He was a life member of Oscar Hykes American Legion Post 223 of Shippensburg, HUB City, Cumberland Valley Hose Company, Cumberland Valley Fireman's Association and Shippensburg Fire Police. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and the Korean War.
His wife, Velva B. Bufkin, passed away in June 2016. He is survived by one daughter, Alma E. and husband, Dale Myers, Jr. of Shippensburg; one son, Robert K. and wife, Pat Bufkin, Jr. of Temple Hills, MD; five grandchildren, Debra K. McKenzie, James Bufkin, Dale E. Myers III, Joseph Bufkin, Benjamin Myers; eight great-grandchildren, Michael D. McKenzie, III, Madison E. Myers, Alexis C. Myers, Makayla R. Myers, Sophia N. Myers, Jack B. Bufkin, Ayva M. Bufkin, Cole Bufkin; one sister, Jane Young of Boonville, IN. He was preceded in death by one son, Kenneth Bufkin; two sisters, Bernice Jamison, Bonnie Crow; and five brothers, Benjamin F., Jack, Jerry, Joseph and Charles Bufkin.
Professional services are entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., Shippensburg. Funeral services will be held at 1 PM on Thursday, April 6, 2017 at Dugan Funeral Home and Crematory, 51 Asper Dr., Shippensburg, with Pastor Arnold and Anita Segesman officiating. Interment will be in Spring Hill Cemetery with military honors provided by the Minutemen of American Legion Post 223. A viewing will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 5 from 6 to 8 PM.
