So devoted to Penn State Berks that he must have also been just as devoted to the school board and his lovely family. As a former adjunct I admired him so much.

Dr. Bender was one of the reasons I appreciated my time at Penn State Berks. He was very encouraging with his guidance to make sure that my college experience was successful and life-changing. He helped me believe that I could accomplish so much during my college career, and I’m forever grateful for his support each and every semester. He’s a man that will always be the face of Penn State Berks. May he rest in his peace and look down on all of us as we continue to live up to his legacy as one of his former students inspired to change the face of education. He will be greatly missed.

Dr. Bender was such a caring person and one of my favorite professors. He was the reason I chose Penn State Berks after touring many schools. I took one of his courses freshmen year and he helped me all the way up to graduation. One of my favorite memories of Dr. Bender was his humorous side. He explained to the class that a member of the school board was coming next class to answer any questions we had. Next week’s class came and in the middle of class he went and changed his outfit and tie. Then Dr. Bender introduced himself as the guest school board member. No one knew that our professor was also a school board member! It really lightened the mood and everyone laughed.
