Robert John Keane (Bob), age 88, went home to his beloved hills of Caroline, NY. Bob was born August 7, 1930, in Ithaca, NY, a son of the late Thomas R. and Cecil Casey Keane. His early years were spent hunting and fishing to supplement the family's meals. As he aged his interests turned to two sports that he excelled in: baseball and football. Schooling consisted of graduating from Newark Valley High School. He received a scholarship to play football at Moravian College then transferred to Cornell University where he played baseball and received his Bachelor's degree.In 1950, he married the lovely Beverly Jean Whittaker. Bob began his career at GLF in Ithaca then worked his way up the sales ladder for Prudential Insurance. He subsequently became an auditor for the New York State Compensation Insurance Rating Board. Bob worked hard, played hard, and provided for his family his whole life.He is survived by: daughters Candace Patane, Cheryl (John) Cheney, Colleen Keane, and Carmel Keane; grandchildren Sarah (Edwin) Ashby, Shannon (Paul) Isham, Emily Cheney, and Stephen Patane (Mollie Carter, fiancé); great grandchildren Brayden & Dylan Ashby and Lauren, Roran & Kallen Isham; caring nieces and nephews; dear friends Pat Liddington, Ruby Scalia, Patti Cummings, Mary Keck; kind neighbors. He was predeceased by his sisters: Eleanor Matychak, Alice Lyons, Helen Korherr, Jane Mulks, Doris Whittaker and Julia Keane; brothers: William, Thomas, and Francis Keane.A graveside service will be held at Caroline Grove Cemetery on Tuesday, August 14 at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Caroline Grove Cemetery 3226 Slaterville Road, Brooktondale, NY 14817. Perkins Funeral Home assisted the family.
