Lily Wright Obituary

January 11, 1929 - December 20, 2018

Lily led a challenging, adventurous, and unique life. As a youth in England, she overcame the death of her father and rough foster families--all while surviving the Manchester Blitz during World War II. Once the war ended, she married Desmond Wright, a veteran of the British Merchant Navy. They had first become acquainted on the dance floor, where, during an outing with friends, Lily "had to push Desmond's feet around" with hers. After marrying, Lily and Desmond had two children, Keith and Janice, and as a family, they moved from England to British Columbia, back to England, and later moved to California, Washington State, and finally Oregon. Lily, an avid reader, enjoyed reading autobiographies and history. She had a special love for poetry and spent many hours over the years journaling her favorites. Lily was proud of her collections, some of which included fine tea pots, English Royalty memorabilia, pottery, and Native American Art. Even though Lily and Desmond moved from country to country, taking with them only what they could carry, Lily always held fast to family photographs and her box camera--her photo journals filled over 30 large photo albums. And yes, Lily and Desmond continued to enjoy many hours dancing, both ballroom and Scottish country.

Lily is remembered lovingly by her children, Keith and Janice, daughter-in-law Sue, grandson Michael, cousin Mildred and by friends around the world who Lily exchanged letters and cards with regularly for decades.

A special thank you to Churchill Estates Assisted Living for their tender, loving care during Lily's last days, and also to some special friends: Dolly, Betty, Wanda, Merle, and Dennis.
