GRATIS — Jack A. Cooper, 84, of Gratis, passed away Sunday, Jan. 17, 2021 at the Soin Medical Center, where the gate to Heaven opened and he entered to be with his daughter. It was very hard to let him go, but now he isn't in pain anymore. He was the rock of our family, and the best husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was the nicest man ever, never met a stranger and always put others before himself. We Love You!
Jack was born Oct. 24, 1936 in Gratis to the late Stanley and Ruby Cooper. He was the former Mayor of Gratis; the owner and operator of Eaton Concrete for many years; a member of the Gratis Eagles Lodge #4289; and a former Gratis volunteer firefighter.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter Cheryl Fudge in 2006. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Dorothy H. "Rickey" Cooper of Gratis; daughters Terri (Marty) Lewis of Farmersville and Shelly (Bert) VanFleet of Centerville, IN; grandchildren Dustin Strayer, Stacey Strayer, Derek Brown, Mandy Brown, Jennifer Fudge, Michael Fudge, Cody VanFleet and Tyler VanFleet; great-grandchildren Kayden and Bub; sisters Phyllis Monroe of Eaton and Delores Duncil of Middletown; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Friday, Jan.22, 2021 from 11 a.m. until time of service at noon at Lindloff-Zimmerman Funeral Home, 113 South Ada Doty Street, Gratis, with Pastor Bob Shannon officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Gratis. Memorial contributions may be made to Gratis Township Rescue Association, PO Box 671, Gratis, 45330.
