GRATIS — Linda F. Merrill, 81, of Gratis, went home to be with lord on Saturday, Nov. 8, 2025.
She was born Jan. 26, 1944, in Glendale, to the late Joseph H. and Disa V. (Poynter) Van Hook.
In addition to her parents, Linda was preceded in death by her husband, Drew (June 23, 2019) after 57 years of marriage and granddaughter, Tiffany Howard-Sharrett (April 15, 2004.)
She is survived by her children Ronnie (Laura) Merrill, Disa (Chip Emrick) Bridges, Denise (Dean) Howard, Rodney (Tonya) Merrill, Dee Ann (Mark) Harris, and Rob (Kristen) Merrill; grandchildren Shannon, Dustin, Jacob, Morgan, Ashley, Jessie, Lauren, Allison, Hudson, and Grayson; 17 great-grandchildren; siblings Joe Van Hook and Debra Van Hook.
Linda was a woman whose heart was as full as her laughter, and whose love for life showed in the simple joys she cherished most. She found happiness in the hunt for treasures at garage sales and could never resist a good shopping trip, especially if it meant finding something special for her loved ones. A devoted member of Abundant Life West, Linda's faith was the quiet strength that guided her life. Her warm spirit and gentle kindness were felt by all who sat beside her in church, shared a conversation, or simply crossed her path. But above all, Linda's greatest joy came from being a Mom and Mamaw. Her family was her world, and she never missed a chance to be present in their lives whether it was a simple visit, a family meal, or just time spent together talking and laughing. Her love was steady, unconditional, and always wrapped in warmth.
Her family would like to thank all the staff at Vancrest Care Center for the wonderful care for their Mom. Mom truly loved her time there where she made so many friends, was well loved and was the queen of all the activities. If the activity bus was leaving, Mom was on it.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, Nov. 12, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Gratis United Methodist Church, 11 S. Ada Doty Street, Gratis 45330. The funeral service will begin at 1 p.m., with her son and pastor, Rob Merrill officiating.
Linda will be laid to rest beside her beloved Drew in Fairview Cemetery, Gratis. BalesFH.com.
