Richard "Dick" H. Hynes 1941—2021
With great sadness we announce the passing of Richard "Dick" Harlan Hynes, of Rockford, on Monday, January 25, 2021.
Dick was born in Dekalb, IL on October 26, 1941, son of Joseph Harlan Hynes and Helaine Vivian (Kubecky) Hynes. He served our country in United States Marine Corps. Dick was a proud graduate of Notre Dame University, receiving a degree in Architecture. He married Margret Hesler on August 6, 1988 in Rockford.
Dick served on many boards, including On the Waterfront, Northern Illinois Hospice, River District Association, Young at Art for the Rockford Art Museum and Eye Delight. He was president of the American Small Businessman's Association Board as well as the Rockford Regional Better Business Bureau Advisory Board. Dick was involved with 100 Men Who Cook and was a member of the University Club of Rockford.
Architecture was not only Dick's profession, it was his passion. A progressive thinker, he was at the forefront of solar energy, obtaining several patents throughout his career.
Dick enjoyed sailing and even competed in the Chicago to Mackinac Run as well as the Queen's Cup. He also had a passion for sports cars, racing, horseback riding, dancing, and was a great cook and grill master.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Margret Hesler Hynes; daughters, Pamela Jo and Kristin (Rhett) Merriman; grandchildren, Spencer Thoma (Kim Guo) and Paige Thoma; nieces, nephews and cousins; sister, Sharon Walker; sister-in-law, Jane Hesler and brother-in-law, Frank Buchmann. Dick is predeceased by his parents; sister, Ruth Ann (Mike) Sullivan and sister-in-law, Julie Buchmann.
A Celebration of Dick's Life is planned for Wednesday, February 10, 2021 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the University Club of Rockford, 945 N. Main Street.
