DORSET - Sandra Lee Casey, 35, a resident of Redondo Beach, CA, passed away on Monday, Oct. 1, 2017.
Sandy grew up in Dorset, VT, attended Dorset Elementary School and graduated from Burr and Burton Seminary (Academy) '04 in Manchester, VT.
Her love for children guided her choices when determining her life ambitions. She graduated from the College of St. Joseph in Rutland, VT, with a degree in special education. She continued her studies, receiving her master's degree from Assumption College in Worcester, MA. Sandy taught students with special needs at Poultney High School in VT before relocating to Redondo Beach, CA, where she continued teaching special needs students at the Manhattan Unified School District.
Sandy was very athletic; she played soccer on Sundays, bowled on Tuesdays, spent her free time running, attending hot yoga and laughing at her own jokes.
Sandy is survived by her parents, Teresa and Steven Casey, of East Dorset; her fiancé, Christopher Willemse, of Torrance, CA; sisters, Tracy Carey and her husband, Chelcie Carey, of Tinmouth, Amanda Bevis and her husband, Jason Bevis, of East Dorset, Tanya Casey, of East Dorset, and Samantha Stone, of Manchester; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family is extremely comforted by the outpouring of love and kindness of our extended family, friends, Sandy's co-workers, members of the community and the country, many of whom we've never met.

Hello Sandy,
I feel numb over the fact you're not with us. You seemed to have had a wonderful life as a teacher and a lot to live for until that horrid night in Las Vegas. I'd be so terrified if someone fired bullets at me! Its unfortunate you lost your life, but may the Lord always bless you in paradise.

We just wanted to tell your family and your fiance that you were an angel on Earth and now in Heaven. I took a special education class because my stepson had a traumatic brain injury and wasnt progressing according to his age. I took a class and on the first day my professor said your students will forever be impacted by you because you are the one that makes them feel special every single day. Thats whats special about this type of education. You did not deserve this but the impact you made with your story and relationship with your fiance impacted us and so many others.

San, there just aren't any words to the devastating news I received Monday morning. I keep saying there are no words, I just can't, I just don't get it. And I keep reminding myself we just talked three weeks before that about wedding plans and busy work weeks. As the days go by it sinks in that you are no longer in California doing your thing. Your back home in Vermont with your family whom is surrounded by so many that loved you. You are missed dearly my friend. We love you.
